Re: Booting Your Computer: How Long Does Yours Take?

Jan 5, 2007
I did a test this morning to see if I can get my PC to boot up a little faster.  I disabled a few things in my taskbar hoping it will do the trick.  Unfortunately it still takes my computer 2 minutes and 15 seconds to finish booting.  The fault definitely lies with AVG.  But since it's a pretty good antivirus program, I can live with it.

10-20 seconds on my desktop. It's a really powerful machine and I've got a 3GB/s HDD, so it doesn't take long to load at all. All the programs in the tray load instantly because of my Core 2 Duo.

It takes my computer about 1 minute to load the desktop from the second I push the power button. That's not bad considering it's a 3 year old computer running Windows Vista RC1. But then again, it has an AMD Athlon XP processor running at 2.08 GHz, but it's graphics card is so bad, it refuses to tell me what it is. But the cheap computer that my family uses takes about 10 minutes to load everything, since it has a 994 MHz processor. It's pathetic.

From Bios to windows spiny thingy, it took 10sec, from loadupsound ~1min. Usable at around ~2 1/2min.... but officially:

The hard drive stopped spinning at 00:02:33.00

I removed a couple programs from start up and got it down to: 00:02:10.33

This is how you make you computer boot very fast

1. Go to the:

C:\Windows\prefetch

...folder and delete everything in it

2. Copy the following exactly as it is posted here:

rundll32 advapi32,ProcessIdleTasks

and browse to: START - RUN, then paste it into the OPEN: box and click OK

Wait for about 30 seconds and then reboot the system.

: In order to make a system boot even faster, after applying the above instructions, ...use a disk defragenter such as Perfectdisk 7.0 or O&O Defrag and make sure the "Use Layout.ini" option is selected for boot defragmentation in the software.
If the system does not boot correctly the first time after you do this IT IS NORMAL just reatart the computer and it will work

Disclaimer: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT THIS DOES TO YOU COMPUTER BUT THIS WILL WORK seriously
