Go to store.steampowered.com

Install the program Steam

Open Steam

Browse for games

Buy games

Download Games

Play games.

Steam is the most used PC gaming store. Though if you want games made by EA like Battlefield, you'll need Origin. Although Crysis 1 is on Steam.

Well regardless, most games, whether you buy it through Steam or some external site, require you to enter the code into Steam or Origin.

So wherever you found the CD key for $5 will require you to install one of those two programs (depending on what the CD key is for)

Any PC game that is a digital download, goes through Steam or Origin. There is basically nothing else, honestly.

Maybe Gamefly's downloader, but that's the only other PC store with digital downloads.

If you buy discs, even some disc games still require you to have a Steam account or Origin account, and the discs are only used for the installation purposes and such.

Yes, I realize this, but if you buy a disc game and CD key, you will insert the disc, and it will ask you to log in to some account of sorts.

I bought Batman: Arkham City for PC, and I got a disc/CD key.

Inserting the disc prompted me to go to Steam to verify my install.

Then again, Crysis 1 is an old game, so you might just have the classic program installer.

Either way, you just pop in the disc and follow the instructions

Edit: I remember my first PC had Crysis 1 before Steam had it, and when I started it up, it would pop up a box to type in the CD key, and then after that the game installed and I played. That was it

Well it depends on how old that game disc is.

Like I said in my edit, I have a PC from 2008 that has Crysis installed (my friend pre-installed it), and then when I booted it just asked for the CD key via some popup, I entered it in, and then I could play.

For NEWER games, Origin is required for EA games, but I am not too sure for games that are neither Steam nor Origin powered.

If you buy the discs though, and pop them into your computer, they'll tell you what to do.

Just buy it on Steam. It's the first Crysis for God's sake, Steam probably have it for $5 or less.
