Addicted to Noise

14 replies 136 views Edited Sep 10, 2013

I've come to the realization that I prefer noise.  One of the coolest things is working myself to sleep in a hotel room that is right next to a highway, preferably on a high floor, like 6 or higher, just something about the way things sound when you're up higher....  Slightly less doppler effect, more gradual fade-in-out effect, etc.

In the office I start getting restless if I don't have music or something to listen to in the background...  When I work at home I just have music or even tv going just for the noise sometimes, I don't even have to be watching the stuff (Espcially true for if I had no schedule again and was up at strange hours of the night.  Infomercials in the background anyone?)

So how about you all?  It's not necessarily needing distractions, it's just about the noise.  I've also fell asleep in stupidly loud conditions before just fine (~85-100 decibals)  I might be strange >.>

I love noise. Quiet bugs me. Silent classroom, hearing people breath. That bugs me.

Constant noise is great anywhere.

I grew up in an apartment in NYC with no AC. So all the windows are open. I lived on Lexington Avenue. I could hear conversations and feel traffic (delivery trucks) rumbling and shaking the building. Yup, noise is soothing. Except street repair and construction. I don't like jack-hammers. Oh, and bus breaks that squeal/squeak. Had a bus stop right in front of the building and the subway a block down. So I can hear that too. Ding ding 96th street next. Smiley LOL

It depends on my mood and what i'm doing.

I usually don't like noise made by people around me, i don't like noises made my machines, any kind of machine.

But... i do like music/songs, when i play them, of course. Sometimes i'm walking down the street and some **bleep** passes by me driving a car with some terrible brazilian music on max volume. It happens every day. So loud and annoying. Why can't he listen to his own stuff without making me and other people listening to some terrible music?

And by terrible music i mean a brazilian version of We Can't Stop/Friday.

Off topic but I always enjoy your post's =)

The only time I enjoy noise is when I'm blasting my music. Other than that, I enjoy the silence

I do usually listen to something most of my waking hours.  At work, I can wear headphones most of the time.  Depending on the game, I will listen to something else in the background while I play (if the game isn't particularly story-focused, or I don't really care about it).  I also usually fall asleep to a TV show or whatever playing, but I don't want any noise when I'm actually sleeping.

Tinnitus gives me a harsh ringing in the ears during absolute silence, so I far prefer white noise.
