A note about "2008"

8 replies 2 views Edited Mar 29, 2007
This will likely be locked, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Some are commenting about this company or that company holding games until 2008.

Just wanted to point out that most companies have fiscal years that start in April of the year preceeding the year they are named for.

So for example, most major companies will enter Fiscal year 2008 on April 1.
Sony's Fiscal Year 2007 will end on Saturday March 31, and Fiscal year 2008 will end on March 31, 2008.

So keep that in mind.

Fiscal year 2008 starts on Sunday April 1, 2007.
So.......
Q1 FY 2008 is April 1 2007- June 30, 2007
Q2 FY 2008 is July 1 2007 - September 30,2007
Q3 FY 2008 is October 1 2007 - December 31, 2007
Q4 FY 2008 is Januray 1 2008 - March 31 2008

i think you mixing up things.... fiscal year and quarter have nothing to do together.

when I say second quarter 2007 is the second bunch of 3 months

Q1 (Janvier, Fevrier, Mars)
Q2 (Avril, Mai, Juin)
Q3 (Juillet, Aout, Septembre)
Q4 (Octobre, Novembre, Decembre)
I've posted the nave of the month in french, for you guys that wanted to start learning a new language...

Although true, companies often use real dates instead of fiscal ones when discussing release dates.

Actually it depends on the way the companies are saying it. it is not uncommon for a company to refer to Q4 earnings, which is not the calendar fourth quarter but the Fiscal Q4. So when Sony talks about Playstation 3 bringing in Q4 numbers in this range or that they are referring to FY 2007's fourth Quarter. Not the end of 2007 the calendar year.

I'm aware of that.  I'm saying that when companies are talking about release dates of things (like games), they use real dates and not the fiscal ones..

What originally started this was people flipping out over an EIDOS comment that they would not relesae PS3 games until 2008. The ACTUAL comment was:
"the second half of our 2008 financial year"

So figure Fiscal 08, in the second half, or Around September 2007.
