I don't know why it took them 3 movies to
Spoilerdestroy the ring.
They should of just hopped on the giant bird and fly right over...
Yes they could, is not like a giant eye was watching for the ring right next to the volcano or anything. And is not like that eye could summon a bunch of Nazguls on wyrms that could eat them in seconds.

The movies are epic, TTT has the best battle, so it's a better stand-alone movie.
But watch all three of the trilogy, if you like them, watch the extended versions.
Reading the books would make one appreciate the movies all the more, and maybe get you perturbed about some of the changes, but mostly that, for me, is fully reserved for the ending.
The Hobbit is a good book too. It's great that the movies are coming after LOTR. It makes sense to me. The Hobbit is about an adventure.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Gathering is a really good movie. I saw it in the theatre and didn't like it much. I knew we'd get the Blu-ray of it anyhow.
I can't tell you how many times I've seen that movie on my big TV screen and my my tablet. Too many times to count. It's better at home and it's addictive to see again, and again, and again, Ad nauseam? ---no, that's only what the people that live with me feel. It's pleasure-able to me!
I'm really looking forward to the next installment of The Hobbit in December.
