Thanks for the encouragement.  Once I get through Uncharted 2, I'll get back to NGS2.  Hopefully I didn't make a mistake taking a break and end up getting rusty.

Trust me --- all you'll need is to see a couple of Game Over screens and you'll be back to form .

I actually --- somehow --- managed to stop playing Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2.  Instead of starting Uncharted 2, however, I decided to give my Xbox 360 some love and started MagnaCarta 2.  So far, so good!

Re: Path of the Master Ninja - My First Impressions

UPDATE

Chapter 15 complete!

NOTES

  • Recommended Weapon - Lunar Staff

  • Enemy Assortment - marionette demons (those pink metal spiderlike robots), three types of Van Gelfs (pink, black, and golden), lesser fiends, ghost fish, and red water demons

WALKTHROUGH
(I'll keep this real short since the boss fights are what this chapter and the remaining two chapters are all about)

  • The marionette demons make their first appearance in the game just a few steps ahead of the Muramasa shop (there will be a total of five).  Use the staff's level 1 360 degree Ultimate Technique to dismember them.  Promptly obliterate them after.  (EDIT:  An Ultimate Technique with the Tonfas is an instant kill on these enemies)

  • The next wave of enemies right before the first save point consist of a total of five Van Gelfs (three pink, one golden which will be replaced after you kill one).  Again, the staff's 360 degree Ultimate Technique is the go to move (level 1 or 2 it doesn't matter --- it's an instant kill either way).

  • Save your game

MARBUS

  • Recommended Weapon - Lunar Staff

  • Basic Strategy - Eliminate the lesser fiends accompanying Marbus either with Art of the Wind Blades or with Izuna Drops.  Once it's just you and the big flying goat, try to stay underneath him as much as possible as his moves are easier to avoid this way.  When Marbus isn't moving about a lot, use the Lunar Staff's jumping Izuna Drop to hit him (jump + Square, Square, Triangle).  Marbus is obviously way too big to be grabbed, but it matters not --- the staff still hits for good damage.  When Marbus misses a spiral dive bomb attack, rush towards him and do Gleaming Shadow (Square, Square, Triangle) followed by an Izuna Drop (Square, Triangle -> Square, Square, Triangle).  As mentioned in my notes about Chapter 8 (read that for more details on Marbus' attacks), Marbus will grab you as he stands up so the Izuna Drop will keep you in the air thus avoiding the grab.

WALKTHROUGH
(con'td)

  • After finishing up with Marbus, a pink Van Gelf will rush towards you.  Use Gleaming Shadow to amputate it and promptly end the fight with an Obliteration Technique.  Keep an eye out because another pink Van Gelf is nearby.  Proceed further down and two pink Van Gelfs accompanied by a black Van Gelf are in the area.  The chest close by contains ghost fish.  Once clear of enemies, drop down to the next area.

  • As you land and go forward, marionette demons will drop in.  Use the staff's 360 degree Ultimate Technique to make short work of them.  Alternatively, you can use the Eclipse Scythe.  Be warned that the scythe's level 1 Ultimate Technique barely damages the marionettes so if you want to get anywhere, you must use a level 2 Ultimate Technique.

  • Just ahead will be the save point --- but wait --- you'll be ambushed by a total of four golden Van Gelfs.  Past the save point are more golden Van Gelfs accompanied by sand colored lesser fiends.  I made the choice to just run through all of them (bypassing the save point) and take on Zedonius.  Since Zedonius is a boss, I'd simply continue at that area should I die.

ZEDONIUS

  • Recommended Weapon(s) - Lunar Staff, True Dragon Sword

  • Recommended Attack(s) - Gleaming Shadow (Lunar Staff - Square, Square, Triangle) and Izuna Drop (Lunar Staff - Square, Triangle -> Square, Square, Triangle).  If you opt to use the True Dragon Sword, just stick to short ground combos and the Square, Triangle, Triangle sequence that I mentioned versus the Tengu in the previous chapter.

  • Basic Strategy - Stay close so as to prevent Zedonius from spamming projectile based attacks.  His physical attacks are slow and are easy to avoid.

  • Pro-Tip - Zedonius is flanked by 3 red water demons in this battle.  These guys are stronger than the ones he had with him in Chapter 10's boss fight so that automatically makes things bleak.  If that wasn't enough, they're freakin' red in an area with lots of red and orange!  So what is this pro-tip I speak of, you say?  As soon as the battle begins, dash jump to the small island to your right.  ZEDONIUS WILL FOLLOW YOU BUT THE RED WATER DEMONS WILL NOT!  Isn't that just cool?  Indeed!  This makes things more than fair I'd say.  For more details on Zedonius' attacks, check the write-up on Chapter 10.

 WALKTHROUGH (cont'd)

  • IMPORTANT - Immediately after Zedonius is defeated and you resume controlling Ryu, pick up Zedonius' "heart" and make a run for the save point.  The red water demons are going to be coming up right behind you since they were not touched in the previous battle.  If you feel like taking them on, be my guest.  Just don't say I didn't warn you about getting blindsided .

  • After saving, go to the Muramasa statue to stock up on items.  This area is haunted by ghost fish.  Use the Fiend's Bane Bow to target and shoot one which will then cause the others to "swim" towards you.  Equip the Lunar Staff or the Vigoorian Flail to deal with these annoyances.  Once clear, save again and go forward.

  • Just before Volf appears, a herd of centaurs will make their way to you.  Equip the Art of the Inferno and manually target three of them.  You'll see that this ninpo is an instant kill on the centaurs.  Once you have taken three out, use the Essence to charge up an Ultimate Technique.  Alternatively, you can, of couse, just do Art of the Inferno again.

VOLF

  • Recommended Weapon - Lunar Staff

  • Recommended Attack - Gleaming Shadow (Square, Square, Triangle)

  • Basic Strategy - Stay close, do Reverse / Furious Wind as needed and strike with Gleaming Shadow --- that's all there is to it.  For a more detailed description of how Volf attacks, see the write-up to Chapter 7.

Hey mmmig, which Team Missions have you done?  I've finished the MN Chapter Missions and now moving to Team Missions.  I've done Mentor 1,2,3,4 and UN 5.  That's about it, wondering if you would want to pair up and take on some of the missions.

I've cleared all of Acolyte, Warrior, Mentor, along with Master Ninja 1 and Ultimate Ninja 4 and 5.  I'm definitely down for some co-op.  What's your preferred time?

UPDATE:  Ok just read more about the Team Mission stuff.  So right now I see that no one has beat UN 1 or 2 and after reading about it I can see why.  Team Ninja obviously wanted people to suffer.  I mean I wanted to get all the trophies for this game, but now that "All Missions" seems very far away.  If it includes all the team missions then that means not one person has done it yet.  That's just insane.

Still the hate burns wild, growing inside this heart

MEXICA408:

It's all good, man.  I haven't played as much of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 (nor have I used the PS3) as I have in the last couple of weeks thanks to Borderlands .  Man, I haven't even started Uncharted 2 .

Re: Path of the Master Ninja - My First Impressions

I'm on EST.  On Weekdays, evening time is good (like around 7 PM or so).  On Weekends it's pretty random.

Right now I'm a bit discouraged in playing knowing that the final trophy is very likely to be out of reach.  No one being able to do UN1 or UN2 is not very reassuring. :smileysad:  Looks like the Devs wanted to dish out some Ultimate Ninja pain. :smileyfrustrated:

I know that Ultimate Ninja 1 is damn near impossible (if not completely), but Ultimate Ninja 2?  Doesn't that mission have Obaba as the "boss"?  If so, then it's totally doable.  Me and a guy on my friend list nearly beat Obaba.

The problem we had was two-fold:

  • First, he doesn't really know how to approach the Rasetsu fight
  • Second, his way of fighting the Tengu is not efficient, i.e., he doesn't counter

I have no problems doing either, but I can't do both because I use different weapons for each.  For that reason, I suggested that he pick the Lunar Staff as his weapon (to use versus the spider) because Rasetsu is much easier to deal with than the Tengu (I had the True Dragon Sword for him).  The thing is, my partner doesn't have 100% execution with the Lunar Staff's 360 degree Ultimate Technique (which is what you need versus Rasetsu).  Also, for the first bit, he'd stick close to Rasetsu and wait for an opportunity to strike --- not a good idea.

Now if Obaba isn't the last boss encounter in that game, then I guess I was just talking out of my ass .

Re: Path of the Master Ninja - My First Impressions

Obaba is the 2nd last boss in UN2.  After Obaba you face not 1, not 2, but THREE fiend Genshins at the SAME TIME.

At least this is what I read from forums.  And this would explain why UN1 and UN2 are like practically impossible if not impossible.  Tecmo just wanted to dish out some serious hurt. :smileyfrustrated:

WOW.  That is pretty much out of the question then lol!  If it were regular Genshin, I'd welcome it since you can do Izuna loops on him --- but the Fiend version?  That one alone in Mentor 4 was super tough!
