If you read one of the preview on PlayStation.com and wonder, "Who writes this crap?!?", now you know.

Would you happen to know when PlayStation.com is going to have actual news on it's site?

Jul 18, 2001
Right now it seems just like a big store... If you visit the sites of other game console makers, they actually have news about their consoles... News would be nice.

PlayStation.com is a big ol' store. You go to the game maker for the news, which is... (READ INSIDE)

SCEA.com. Go there for all the mini-sites and game news and what-not.

(REMEMBER THAT ANYTHING I SAY IS MY OWN STATEMENTS, AND DOESN'T COME AS ANY TYPE OF OFFICIAL STATEMENT ABOUT PLAYSTATION OR HOW THE COMPANY VIEWS ITSELF OR ITS COMPETITION)

PlayStation.com was set up as a store for a reason -- the PlayStation is a big system that does a lot more stuff than most other consoles. For one, Third Party game companies are more the key element of PlayStation than maybe another console would be. When Sony started PlayStation, the purpose was to get all kinds of game makers making games for it... that would also include Sony games, but there's no mascot or anything like that, and Twisted Metal stands in the same lines as MGS and Tekken. The other thing is that PS2 does DVD, CD, probably more soon. It's big, and SCEA's games are part of that instead of all of it.

So, when PS2 came out, the company figured out that there needed to be a split between SCEA's games and the rest of the stuff PS2 can do -- other companies' games, DVDs, CDs, etc. Also, it just came to a point where some of the web sites out there like Gamespot and IGN are much better resources for gaming news than official sites -- they're connected to Japan, they can leak stuff that we WISH we could tell you, they can say things that are bad... So rather than compete with them AND try to be this big autonomous thing, PlayStation.com was set up as something else. You want PlayStation stuff, you go to PlayStation.com. Simple as that... it almost makes TOO much sense. You want cheese, you go to Cheese.com, you want shoes, you go to Shoes.com.

The site will be more than that sooner or later, but it had to start somewhere, so it just seemed logical. We do have news, via a feed from Gamespot and Gamers.com, and we're working on feed sources from other networks so that you get ALL the PlayStation news. Plus, any game preview on the site will link to the official mini-site for the news you're looking for (that part of the site is in repairs, but look for it if you're looking for game info). And we do goofy stuff and other things here and there too...

Wait, what's this all got to do with movies, and why's it in the movie section? Oh yeah, PlayStation.com has movies, come buy some.
