I don't think Pacific Rift blows chunks in the literal or figurative sense. It's a worthy purchase. The servers are a bit screwy but that's bound to happen 3 years and 7 months after release.

in agreement with dawg therere-servers,  I made a return to the Island myself after a 18 month time-out, its as addictive as ever. lots of newbies coming thru, the young annoying kids of today are going to fund the next gen of MS, and they make the races simple silly fun. For a game thats ancient by gaming standards, it still has the chops! If its on platinum, then whats not to like? come on in, the waters lovely!

I've been experiencing this too along with other rifters I know.  It seems that the Rift servers go down around 10pm ET/7pm PT in the U.S. for some unknown reason.  The servers seem to resume as if they were normal around the daylight hours.  I really hope this isn't some random sign that the servers are about to go down permanently.

the euro server goes down at 3am german time (that´s 9pm new york time) since the beginning of june....really sucks
