The Phantom Pain is most definitely related to Metal Gear Solid, but how?

http://www.gametrailers.com/full-episodes/rxg39y/video-game-awards-2012-vga-2012--part-1----the-phan...

Skip to around the 10:30 mark.

It's clearly the FOX engine. It looks like Liquid Snake. And that doctor was Madnar.

But it's modern day. Is that what Ground Zeroes was following up with?

Kojima was at the VGA's after all.

Yeah, I just started watching the VGA's and saw the trailer for Phantom Pain and the entire time I'm thinking "Metal Gear?".

I gotta say, pretty excited, it looks pretty amazing, and that explains why he has no arm, I'm just wondering one thing, Liquid isn't the perfect clone of Big Boss, so why does he look so much like him? I'm just going by Metal Gear Solid 1, so did I miss something about Liquid Snake? Gotta watch that trailer again.

EDIT: Just wanted to add this image

What the hell this I just watched?

Why does it looked so amazing?

Why does it got me hyped already?

WHY!!!?!??

Okay... First... Some facts... Yes, that thing has GOT to be the Fox Engine... I mean, the way the characters walked crouhcing and runned, that was just like in Peace Walker and the Ground Zeroes Demo. Second, the nurses. Remember about them? And third, well, mostly about all the trailer.

But, I am somewhat confused... How could this be an MGS? I mean, I still see all the Kojima-thingy in it, It has an Ogre felling. It has taboo elements (the handicap-playable character, the on-screen headshot killing with the corpse's head looking directly with his still opened eyes to the camera), but I just can't see right now how to connect it to MGS. Yeah the guy looks like Snake, but Liquid? Why Liquid? Big Boss? How could it? How...

But there's something that's hitting me right now... This screen.

Volgin? Anyone? And the hellfire horse... Maybe The Sorrow?

$0.10 says its a dream sequence with Big Boss, more acurately a nightmare of his past, for MGS5.

as Willy pointed out, that is clearly Volgin. if not, then they are using the exact same suit he had in MGS3.

also, From FOX 2 phantoms were born.

ive got much to say, but i will wait till tomorrow.

Re: The Phantom Pain is most definitely related to Metal Gear Solid, but how?

Since I already posted in the other thread, I won't repeat what's already been said here by others.

Really thinking those 'off-screen' Twitter pics that Kojima was posting throughout the past year or so were from this. Remember the Volgin-esque character with the messed up face? The what I now assume were 'nurses' where you could actually see the transparency of their shirts (showing the bras underneath)? Kojima was testing out some of the PW models with the engine so what if he was seeing how they'd 'scale' in size to the other things we saw in the trailer?

I'm wondering if 'Phantoms' means we'll be seeing some old characters who are dead making an appearance (in one scene in the trailer, you see a marionette-like figure coming up next to a guy so Sorrow?) . Ocelot was having trouble with Liquid's actual arm taking over his own mind so maybe this will link up somewhere with that (supernatural if he's not just tripping out). Could be Liquid or maybe another failed clone that got out and a team is sent to clean up/retrieve him?

Nice overlay as well Arena. @SE: I thought about that too. Guy Savage was one of his weird dreams in MGS3 so there is that.

Well despite how much evidence has been found to support this as fact, does this tweet by Kojima seal the deal?

Also the people were there from "Moby **bleep** Studios" and none of them spoke english. IN FACT, ONE OF THEM SEEMED TO HAVE WORKED ON MGS2 AND 3. HMMMMM.

Re: The Phantom Pain is most definitely related to Metal Gear Solid, but how?

When they first showed the main character in the trailer, I blurted out "Metal Gear Solid 5?" to my brother.

After it was over, I just went "Oh, nevermind."
I'm so glad others saw the similarities as well and did their research.

I'm honestly hoping this was Kojima un-officially announcing MGS5, and not just showing off some more footage from MGS:GS.

Can't wait until more info surfaces on this.

If everybody is wrong and it IS a new IP, it still looks awesome.

Re: The Phantom Pain is most definitely related to Metal Gear Solid, but how?

It could be big boss having post-tramatic stress from his time out in the field and maybe that's why he has a giant whale on fire about to eat him. But regardless of what it is, it has caught a lot of people's attention, and I want it now.

I have a feeling it's gonna be a completely new Snake character since All Snakes alive have both arms.  It can't be Liquid because he didn't lose his arm until after death.  Unless this game is set in the distant future and they revived Liquid some how.

Doubt it.  Liquid was butchered along with Solidus to rebuild Big Boss in MGS4.  So yeah, I'm in the mindset we might get a look at a new Snake.  Maybe a failed one that has been 'off the records' till now.

EDIT: Can't be Liquid either way.  Ocelot lost his 'right' hand to Gray Fox so if he was getting a replacement from Liquid, it would be the 'right' hand.  Character in PP is missing his 'left'.
