Rising looks a bit over the top

49 replies 13 views Edited Jun 24, 2010

Don't mean to be a nancy, But when i saw that bit of gameplay in the trailer i was actually a bit horrified. Metal gear games have never really been that graphic or bloody. I don't think this game is going to live up to the Metal Gear standards, Looks like a sword swinging gore fest.

The cutting off body parts is a bit over the top yes, but the blood has been there for a long time.

What exactly are this MG standards you're talking about? I ask because a couple of past games haven't live up to my standards either...Also, your entire opinion is based on footage created with the whole purpose of showing off a new engine, but whatever...

And what do you people don't get? Rising is supposed to be a new direction for the series. Key word: NEW. Of course it will be somewhat different from past games That's the whole point isn't it? The question you should be asking yourself is "Does the game look like it could be fun?" If the answer is yes, then stop worrying. If it's no, wait until more is revealed.

I wasn't happy with the gore either. I have played MGS1, 2, 3 and 4 and there was never gore. The game always tried to show off how to be peaceful and non violent. What were the first words when playing MGS4? "Don't get in a fight. In this war neither side is your enemy." or at the end of most MGS games they state not to waste your life fighting.
Just live life to the fullest.

When aren't Cyborg Ninja's over-the-top?

We didn't play as Cyborg Ninja though.
When we did go against Cyborg Ninja
do you remember what was said?
He seems to have forgotten who he is.
Naomi tells Colonel and Snake what the government did with Gray Fox they say, "That is sick!"
At the end Gray Fox snaps out of the delusion and goes against Metal Gear to help Snake.

lol, exactly. Also, the series always had a certain degree of graphic violence:

MGS1 - Gray Fox's decimating enemies in a hallway, Gray Fox cutting Ocelot's Hand

MGS2 - Vamp's introduction, Olga's death, Solidus being cut in the back by Raiden

...

rising doesnt interest me....

i never liked raiden, never will.. so i could care less about his story.

also after MGS4, the series ended for me.. theres no point in going back....

i got peace walker and its great, i love the story of big boss. i just wish they remake MG1 so this way we can come full circle ..

Jim, people's problem isn't the gore itself.
Those games had a 1-5 minute part of the gore.
And the main problem people with MGS Rising (or at least I do)
is that it is emphasized and encouraged to kill in massive gore. Was it necessary for raiden to cut that person 3 TIMES to kill him? MGS never encouraged gore and violence like that trailer showed.

Really glad protagonist voiced his opinion on this.

You might want to rethink that...

It might tell us the story of retrieving Big Boss.
I am not sure if that will make it worthwhile to buy.
