Rising Killed my PS3

10 replies 480 views Edited May 16, 2013

Well, maybe.

I have a release date 60G.

When MGS4 came out, it overheated, and had to be refurbished.

Its worked fine since then, albeit it its a little loud.

Anyhow, I get bored, and finally decide to go get Rising, install the game, play for a few minutes, and the machine stops.

Im not posting for you guys to troubleshoot my issue or anything, but as Im quite out of the loop, I thought Id ask if this is in anyway a common issue, linked to the game?

Any other random info, pertaining,  is welcome as well...

That sounds like it's 100% your console, bro. Especially since you've had the issue before.

It's probably about time you get a new PS3. Launch 60gb consoles were what, 2006 or so? My 80gb was from 2008, but I don't play it enough to get any issues like this or anything.

Your issue definitely isn't related to the game though.

Thanks guys :smileyhappy:

Well, I like my 60G, and have really really tried to take care of it. :smileysad:

I like playing all the SH's and MGS's on the one console. :smileywink:

I hardly play PS3 games really.  Mostly earlier PS games.

I guess I should have got a slim earlier for PS3 games. ;/

Now I need to pick up a PS 1,2,&3...and figure out how to get this disk out...

...If I use the syringe on it first, do you think it will give up the disk?

Seriously, it starts to boot, then about the time I would normally see the pretty wave, and hear the pretty tuning sounds, it decides it would rather stay off, and goes back to standby...

Yeah, sounds like a console fault, might've just been a coinsidence that it happened after Rising.

I'm not exactly sure what stores do it, but look around a little, because I'm pretty sure that some stores (maybe GameStop) can actually get the disc out for you.

A hammer will get the disc out just as well. My 60GB went out back in 2009 and I remember seeing other posts around the same time of those first models biting it. Now I have a used 40GB that I'm still paranoid of. It does seem completely random though. With the 60, I had just booted it up to update Savage Moon and the next thing I know, PS3 shuts off. That was it. No signs beforehand.

I took it completely apart.

The disk was easily removed once the deck was out.

The thermal paste was virtually non-existent on the MB.

Tons of dust lodged inside.

Slash, Id recommend voiding the warranty and vacumming the thing out on occasion.

I wish I would have at least tried that.

I still have the 60GB. Should take it apart and fix it up one of these days. Need to buy thermal paste though.
