Killzone 2 is "generic". Really? I don't think so.

An interesting article (blog, actually) by yours truly

It ends with "don't hate me for my article.  hate me because i'm right."

Gotta love it, lol.

Feel free to link it to the haters.  Paddle them with it.

Re: Killzone 2 is "generic". Really? I don't think so.

the problem is unless a game has a great and successful prequel journalists will be more afraid to praise the sequel in advance. Halo 3, Gears 2, Cod4, God of War 2, Resident Evil 5, Guitar hero 2/3. Although these game had great and innovative prequels, lack of innovation is overlooked by journalists for their sequels. The same as if a developers last game was a success they will start praising unannounched titles with things like "they know what they're doing so i trust them", everyone remember the whole bungie hooha at this E3, "what ever they announce i'm sure it will be great" Its not fair but their job is basically to inforce opinion and gain trust with there previews, reviews and editorials. If a higher percentage like game x and hate game y they will bash game y for the sake of game x.

P.S I hate the whole innovation arguement anyway, i'd rather have a game that did existing things great than a game that did something new badly. I just hate when journalists spot one problem for game x and then igore the same problem with game y because they are fans of the prequel or developer.

Exactly.  Like no one in  the Public knows How good KILLZONE 2 will be.  They will just have to wait and see it skyrocket in the sail charts!

People are trying to find something that no one has done before.  Graphics don't count for them and that hook has to be be some what significant in order for them to be amazed.

At this day and age, I think it's hard to not call some of these games "generic".  People tend to bite off more than they can chew.

Re: Killzone 2 is "generic". Really? I don't think so.

when does all this boil down to just a bunch of stupid bull***...though there are a lot of KZ2 fanboys out there a vast majority have been rather humble about the game in terms of bashing other titles. most of us here are just excited for the title and are eager to play it and dont care what others have to say about it. from what i have seen both here and at the command center forums, the average killzone 2 buff is a supporter for the game, but wont go on and on about "its gonna kill this" or "yours can never be this great blah blah blah". the reason that we write articles like these is simply because of utter confusion in terms of why people praise games that did little in terms of innovation and the like. the article is nothing but truth in itself when it states that there is only so much an FPS can do before it is just too out of the box. so maybe, now just maybe, the limit has been reached and there is now a STANDARD for FPS games to abide by

Now in all honesty i cant remember an FPS that had sprinting before the first killzone. maybe there was, if there was i dont know. Yet somehow COD4 is innovative. Maybe in its multiplayer with the perks and all that, but in the overall core gameplay its basically any other FPS with better graphics and the fast forward button pressed. I wont touch halo because i never finished the first one. just didnt like it. plain and simple. i have nothing bad to say about it, just that i didnt like it. im not a fan of all the jumping and lasers. thats also why i dont play the unreal games. is it really that important to people that someone wants to play another game and doesnt like what the latest fad is?

So, though i didnt like it, i will grant that halo is a good game. it looks solid, spawned 2 sequels(albiet they may have possibly been social sequels to please the masses), and is still a much played game today. now i did not own an xbox because there werent really a lot of games i was interested in, halo was one of them but i played the pc version and found i did not like it. so with a lack of an intriguing library of games for me, i went to the playstation 2. so in my eyes, halo was one of the few must have games for the xbox(again this is my interpretation on halos popularity), so naturally a lot of xbox owners bought it. they enjoyed it and thus you get the halo craze.

anyways i guess the whole point im trying to make here is that KZ2 is not generic, it is standard, and there is no reason for any of this stupid arguing to be going on everywhere. when it all comes down to it, we have a playstation 3, so we will buy KZ2 instead of Halo, and people with 360's will buy Halo, end of story, the end, let it die, Die, DIE already. enough is really enough. how can this argument still be going on?

Wha..?! then you must frequent any gaming sites, including this one, much at all. At first it was "The graphics are impossible this gen and can barely be for next gen" and they were proven wrong. Then it was "Great graphics but the AI is total crap!" then they were proven wrong. Then they've gone to "It's just the same generic FPS, nothing special". Soon it'll be "The ground textures look like PS1 graphics" followed by "You can't even smell the grass, that's crap dude!"... and after KZII accomplishes even that it'll be some lame hating regardless.
