Okay heres the deal. First things first, I KNOW FOR A FACT THIS IS NOT JUST LOADING, IT IS FULL FREEZING THAT REQUIRES A FULL RESTART OF MY PS3 MANUALLY.
So my ps3 has never froze before. The other day I got killzone 2 and I couldn't even fully watch the opening scene of the campaign without it freezing on me. (at first it wouldn't even load, it just sat as the loading screen for 20 minuites)
I first decided to delete all data I had for it (the 16mb update and the save file) after I reinstalled the update, I got to the opening cinema and right when they're on the flying transporters it froze.
I began to think it was overheating. I moved it out of the entertainment system and onto the floor in the open and let it stand for a little while. Then I attempted to play.
YES! now I can play. Except, the game seems to freeze on me randomly about an hour or so into playing the game. I have to turn off the ps3 manually because at this point the controller doesn't even work
I noticed that when the game is loading, the sound will stop. I can still play at this point but when it has to load again it freezes completely. This occurs more frequently in multiplayer then in the campaign. It happens about every other full game of warzone.
I dont think over heating is the problem. I play on a 480i TV, i dont see how that could push the ps3 hardware all that much considering its designed for 720p.
I tried fixing it every way I could think of. I completly formatted my ps3 drive (the 5 hour long format, not the quick format) I even considered that when my game was being mass produced there was some sort of write error, so I went to walmart and exchanged it for another copy of the game. nothing helps. I'm out of ideas. I asked for help on another message fourms and no one has heard of this problem and no one else seems to have run into it. ANY ideas would be AWESOME I'm willing to try pretty much ANYTHING at this point to be able to play the game without it freezing.
EDIT: also, my ps3 is the 80gb mgs4 bundle ps3, if it matters.
Thanks in advance.

its a pretty graphics heavy/cell processor heavy game, it will overheat slightly from time to time. Just make sure you dont leave your ps3 on whilst playing killzone 2 for more then 6 hours. Freezing has never happened to me within the first hour or two of playing, its only happened on saturdays when i play for longer.
Just make sure the area around the ps3 is well ventilated and keep the area around it as cool as possible if you know your going to play for a long time (room fan is okjust make sure its going with the air pushing out instead of pushing the hot air back in, ever since ive kept the ps3 area ventilated, it has never froze.

I don't think I could ever play a game for 6 hours straight, although I really wish I could play killzone 2 that long. Honestly, after it freezes the first time I'm so turned off to the idea of it soon freezing again I just leave it off. It's a shame because I do have a lot of fun playing it when it actually works.
The ps3 right now is on the floor standing up, surrounded by nothing. I assume that would make it well ventilated. When I touch the system it doesn't even feel hot. although I can feel warm air that comes out of it.
Also, Someone on another fourm told me to autoclean my ps3 by turning off the back switch, holding down the eject button and then turning on the back switch. This didn't work for me because apparently it's only for the 60 and 40gb models, so if anyone knows how to do this (or knows if its possible) with an 80gb ps3 it would be awesome.

Hey man, i feel your pain. Killzone 2 overheats my ps3 too. if i dont ventilate mine well then it'll crash out between 30mins to an hour of play. beep beep beep and flashing red light to show its over heating. none of my other games do this but if i put a fan by it, i guess it stays cool enough. still havent determined if i should send my ps3 in for repair,if this problem will pass possibly with patching or what not. was thinking of maybe getting a canned air duster to blow it out, may be a build up of dust i cant see. either way, best of luck to you on that problem.
This is one of the things that they tell you NOT to do in the owner's manual, provided of course that you bothered to open up the manual and take the time to read it. They recomend taking a low powered vacuum (an ordinary house hold vacuum will do) and vacuuming out the vents.
I highly doubt that Killzone 2 is making your PS3 freeze. Once again, it's called faulty cause and affect. If anything, your PS3 may not be getting proper ventilation.
