Theres one thing thats got me wondering if they didn't leave room open for a sequel of sorts: Warning! Don't read on because its a spoiler if you haven't beaten the game!
SPOILER: With on of the endings with Madison, shes at a book signing, and a man named "Vincent" comes over and says next time should she go head to head with a opponent thats more "ferocious" and has disappeared when she looks up. Its a pretty clear hint that HES the more ferocious adversary. This leaves a open-ended possibility of Madison being featured in a another Heavy Rain style game, without the three other characters making an appearance. The question then is would the team consider that a "sequel" or just a different game altogether, that simply ties in with Heavy Rain. Just a thought

The game does leave a window open for potential stories in the future in that ending. Quantic Dream's game before Heavy Rain was Indigo Prophecy, itself a suspenseful quick-time event adventure. While I haven't played the game, this has me wondering if there's any connection between that game and Heavy Rain. Were any characters from Indigo featured and uodated in Heavy Rain? If so, maybe Madison could appear in a brand-new outing in some later project? And if not her specifically, someone like her?

As much as I enjoyed Heavy Rain. I didn't see it as a franchise of games. I think they accomplished what they wanted with the story in this game and Heavy Rain was basically dealt with the plot of the Killer in the game. There really is no need to draw from that again.
I think if they did another game that was called DayLight or something that is different I don't see why they wouldn't be able to carry over the same game mechanics and story board elements that made Heavy Rain a good game. Yet I think a fresh new story would be needed!
