Re: Wheelie cars

Aug 18, 2011

It seems we are devoid of screenage filled with things standing on end...

Here is the first car, a gift from 7Kitty in it's first serious wheel stand: (..Click pics to make bigger..)

http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h175/antracer/GT5%20Pics/Wheelie%20Cars/CobraWheelStand13.jpg

It ran the entire length of the Rome Mini circuit, stopping only because of the guard rail at the end of the straight.

This is my first "home grown" car, doing a run on the High Speed Ring long front stretch:

http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h175/antracer/GT5%20Pics/Wheelie%20Cars/CobraWheelStand2.jpg

After a few minutes, I was running the entire length of the straight on the rears alone...

http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h175/antracer/GT5%20Pics/Wheelie%20Cars/CobraWheelStand8.jpg

Here's what happens when you drop too quickly out of a wheelie...

http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h175/antracer/GT5%20Pics/Wheelie%20Cars/CobraWheelStand6.jpg

I then took Kitty's Cobra, and with a few transmission tweaks had it running up and down the HSR's stretch:

http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h175/antracer/GT5%20Pics/Wheelie%20Cars/CobraWheelStand12.jpg

I currently have the Cobra shared online for anyone to borrow. The basic suspension setup is the same for 99% of the cars that will pop. The only changes are the transmission settings. This works in the track test and arcade, but not in a lounge. I had both the TVR and the Cobra both to the tipping point, but they get 2 inches off the ground and slam down. Truly sad that, as a couple Cobra's side by side would be epic wheel standing down the strip...

I've had the Cuda, the P Challenger and the 71 Mustang pop using the bounce method, but have yet to hit the sweet spot gear wise. Also had the 71 pop slightly, but she just may be too much car to lift off. No luck with the P Camaro yet... The small blocks revs vs the low end torque needed are proving to be a tough mix.

Also been playing with many of the TVR cars and a Lexus IS 200. Have bought a ton of potentials too. One of these days when I can get some time, I'll be on the strip seeing what can be made to go up, up and away...!

Yeah, 2 Cobras putting them skyward would be epic. Try the TVR 350c Dan, potential.

I have almost every TVR available in line for tune and testing. I've had the 91 out on the track for a few runs, it sounds so, so sweet. Just getting the feel of it and started to work out the tip point for it. It feels a bit nose heavy and the HP is a little low, but it's early yet. SE427 has had a Tavora pop, so that's one I'll be running soon. TVRs in general seem to have a good predisposition for this kind of thing. Can't wait till tomorrow morning when I can get back out on track and have some fun...

Add Solstice to the list ( pics later, car shared now)

And find trans setup that lets the cobra do a power only, from a dead stop wheel-stand from 2nd gear. (Car also sheared now)

Find long road, Stop car, put in 2nd, stab gas and wait, shift, shift, shift, wall !!!! Cool

Do it again.

Re: Wheelie cars

Firstly, thanks SE427 for getting the pics to show...!

I now stand corrected and salute your pictorial endeavor to document the wonderful world of wheelies...!

My Cobra does do a standing start, just don't power rev off the line. 2nd gear, it chugs a bit. Then the power band kicks and YEE HAH!, hold on. Shift 3rd as it nears the top and it'll wheelie through every gear as long as the track will take it.

Got the Viper Standard to go the length of HSR straight... 2nd gear, Burnout, let off gas and stab the brake. The timing is critical, it needs to be around 38-40 mph with some revs left. Then just nail the throttle... It stands right up, shift 3rd near the top to hold it there. Will run 3rd/4th and gently come down in 5th. Really have to watch it though. This particular car likes to grab one wheel in the back and pivot, more so than any other so far. The back bumper also makes the funniest hillbilly face you've ever seen. Looks like a pumpkin after a few runs. With the brakes on, it just stares at you with a totally stupid look on it's face. LOL...

Had a 350c TVR up a bit, it'll go soon The suspension is tight, but it doesn't seem to be hampering it too badly. I love my TVR Tamora, that is one sexy automobile. That one will be much fun. My 91 TVR is still being fidgety... But I haven't done a whole lot with it yet.

The GTO is really playing coy. Half stands is far as it wants to go. It wants to, it really wants too. The skinny tires are hurting it, as with the 71 Bee. I also think the 55/45 balance hurts a bit. Problem is, any added weight makes it worse, even all the way in the trunk. The cars just go dead when the kg's is upped.

Another thing really hampering some of these cars is the 2.500 final drives. The 2.000's have so much more room to play with. I've toyed with reversing the gear sets, as it's done in the real world, but the cars don't like it as much. Something about that 2.000 final that really helps make the front end want to walk up. There's a good many cars that would work if we can solve that riddle... Ms. Jess may have to put some of that gear ratio knowledge to work...

And I have to say, I'm getting severely addicted to this... Last night I was to the point of incoherence (..ask xEX, he had to try and comprehend me for a few hours as I made NO sense whatsoever. I am sorry EX, really I am. You were so patient..) But afterwards I played around with the GTO some more. Got frustrated and took it to a track and discovered something else equally fun to do. I have some good pics and one heck of a replay, Hope to get it to the computer by tomorrow.

Got to get you a good MIC there Kitty so we can share tunage and travails while seeing just how harsh a mistress gravity can be on certain 71 Mustangs and Vettle mobiles... ?B)

Re: Wheelie cars

My cobra tune was based off yours so by now where likly very close to each other. 7's works well, if you have a good handle on a MT, I don't.

It semes to me that the 2.5 cars have to be poped to get up more so than the 2.0 car ( Final drive )

I did have my calculator out last last night trying to get a handle on what the trans gears should be total for ea car and seeing if it would work too take the extra . 500 out from ea gear.

With the 'cuda it did better with the stock trans. Getting some air 3/4 thought 1st. Than the 4.10's kicked in. When trying it with stock trans gears but different final it said no.

It all seem back wards (sdrawkcab ) to me. anything with 4.10's and power in the real world would stand right up on it hind end.
