Welcome to the Essential GT Track List. Here, we will be submitting suggestions for tracks that we, the community, would like to see most of all.
Those of you who have taken part in The Essential GT Car List will be familiar with the format being used here. If not, please read the following instructions.
You may submit any race track you want. It can be a real-world circuit, previous GT tracks, or even fictional tracks from other games, if you want.
Your nomination must include the following parameters. If any of the parameters are missing without explanation, your nomination will not be accepted.
However, feel free to add other things, such as:
All tracks submitted in the acceptable format will be taken to the "Candidate List" found below. At the beginning of each month will be a one-week voting session. Players may vote for up to a number number of tracks they would like to see in GT5 or GT6.
The post states that their will be a vote at the start of each month. However, due to a current lack of nominations, the next vote will be postponed until sufficient nominations are received.
List organized by Track Type, then by Name.

Sepang International Circuit
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
The Sepang International Circuit was first completed in 1999, and held a Formula One race there every year since. Designed by Hermann Tilke, this 5.5 kilometer (3.4 mile) track is famous for its fast sweeping corners and wide racing surface. Overtaking is very easy here, especially at the hairpin turn joining the two long straits.
This track, due its geographical location, is infamous for its frequent rainy conditions. Constant high speeds on both the straits and the corners makes preventing a hydroplane almost impossible.
This track would make a good addition to Gran Turismo. It would both add to GT5's list of Formula One circuits, and also as a new racing experience, thanks to its constant high speeds, multi-apex corners, and braking contests at the hairpin.
Good luck on this venture Gojet. Here is my nomination.
Mount Panorama, Motor Racing Circuit
Real World Circuit
Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia
The Mount Panorama Circuit, opened in 1938 is the home of the Bathurst 1000 motor race, a highlight of the V8 Supercars series, and also a wide range of other race formats. It has a storied history with many of the legends of Australian motor sports racing the 23 corner circuit. The 6.2 km (4 mile) track has a 174 m (570 ft) difference from its highest to lowest point. On non-race days it is a public road, though speed limits are strictly enforced! However V8 Supercars have reached speeds of 300 km/h (186 mph) down Conrod Straight arriving at the chicane at 290 km/h (186 mph). The fastest (non-official race) lap of 1:48:88 was recorded by Jenson Button in a McLaren Formula One car in 2011.
Thanks, Oz. I'm hoping we can assemble a sizable list of tracks to start a vote eventually.
It won't be nearly as large as the Essential GT Car List, but I'm hoping this will be just as helpful.
I was thinking about that. Problem is, most of the tracks I'm not sure oftheir popularity. I was thinking of just taking from the "Gran Turismo Favorites" section, and then add a few other tracks on that list that I noticed are popular nominations. (Such as Seattle Circuit)
Of course, that doesn't mean you can't nominate those tracks here.
Virginia International Raceway
Real World Circuit
Alton, VA USA
Track length (Main course): 3.27 mi
Number of corners (Main course): 17
Originally opened in 1957, VIR is one of America's first permanent road courses. It was built on pastures on the Foote family farm just outside Danville, VA. The first feature race held there was won by Carroll Shelby, in a Maserati 450S. "The lconic Texan uttered a quote about the track that is remembered to this day, “one lap at VIR is like a hundred at Watkins Glen.”" The track hosted various SCCA and professional races for nearly 2 decades, but came on hard times and closed in 1974. In 2000, the track was reopened after extensive modifications--including repaving & widening--and expanding its facilities. It has since come to be regarded as a world-class track & facility, and one among the most beautiful in NA.
more history here: http://www.virhistory.com/
The track is revered by racers for its fast straights and challenging technical sections. It has 130' of elevation changes; it features off camber and decreasing radius turns; it has a 4000' back straight, allowing speeds over 185+ mph for F1 cars and sports racing prototypes. VIR can be an unforgiving track, and will catch a driver out if not given its proper respect (ex: if you get a wheel off at turn 10, South Bend - do NOT try to get right back on, or the tire wall WILL eat your car! ). The names "Nascar bend," "Oak Tree turn," "Hog Pen" and others ring familiar and are hallowed among many an east coast racer.
Before they got on this whole "Nurburgring lap" kick, it was a preeminent facility for testing and developing upcoming models for US automakers (still is - the 'Ring just gets all the press). ex: prior to the introduction of the C5 Corvette, GM tested pre production mules extensively at VIR. They still have a strong relationship with the track, as the astute observer will note that almost every Corvette or Camaro commercial from the last 3 - 4 years has been filmed at VIR...
edit: never saw this before; pretty cool. From 1998, when renovations had just begun. So familiar, yet it's come so far...

Voted one of the best road tracks in basically every poll ever, Why is this not already in the game?
Thanks for the nominations, guys!
Everyone, post your favorite track, real-world or fictional. Let's get this list larger so we can get it ready for vote 2.
Vote 1 will start on September 1st, and will consist of tracks found popular on the current GT Track Wishlist.
(And, yes. I'm using pretty much the exact same formula as Oz's Essential GT Car List. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.)
