For me it was completely transparent going from one disc to the other.

I thought it was for most players, too. There was nothing obvious that affected everyone.

GT5 has a lot of one-off problems that crop up, so maybe this was a new one.

I had the same issue when switching from the original GT5 disk, to the XL version.

What fixed it for me was,, I saved the game save file on a flash drive so I would not lose my progress.

Then I deleted all GT5 data from my PS3.

I then installed the XL version as a new clean full install, once that was completed, including loading GT5 game data to HDD, I restored my game save file.

When I restarted GT5 after that everything worked again as it should.

Hope this helps.

Thanks much for the tip Nuttz.

I'm going to copy this into a .txt file for future reference. Smiley Happy

One question though...

Did you wait until your game was updated completely (latest version #) before restoring your original gamesave file?

In short, yes.

I fully installed and updated to the current version at the time, and did the HDD data transfer, then restored game save file.

What I took from that more than anything was, game version data is stored in a different place than game progress data.

I am pretty sure this compatibility issue had not been reported before, so it has been now.

Thanks!

NP, it was not long after the XL version came out, so was awhile ago now.

Never even thought to report it, just fixed it and moved on.

Oh and also, for some reason I cannot explain It was not like that on both my PS3's, one took the disk and worked normally, but the other did not.

What I cannot remember, and it would be helpful if I could, is which PS3 worked and which didnt, and at what update level were they at. One is my main and the other is my media player/backup unit.

Well, got the updates finished, now trying to install the 8GB portion to HDD.  After almost an hour, the PS3 is still stuck with "17 minutes left" and only about 1/6th of the progress bar filled lol

Went back and read some of the previous posts again, and came across the installing game before updates tip. Really don't want to resort to this since the updates took so long, but I guess that's about my last option.

That is not unusual, wait it out, an hour or more is pretty common.

Retrying to install the 8GB to HDD, this time before any updates and I'm offline as well, and I'm working on 2hours. This is getting to be almost not worth it

Let it Finnish rookie. That way others can at least know that it paid off. Your time in this will prove very beneficial to others and yourself. Besides, I need to know too. So hang in there.

Left the 8GB install on overnight, and it's still at about 1/6th finished after 12 hours.  Giving up on that, and moving on to seeing if the re-installed updates will work.
