Oil change /Other

How many miles can you go before you need to change the oil in your car? Also how often do I need to do a engine rebuild or chassis refresh?

From what I have seen the higher the HP or if it has a turbo/supercharger kit you will need to change the oil more often. Say every 300 miles is a good time to least check it. Any hp drop over 10 is time for a change. When a oil change no longer brings the hp up to it's max for your settings it is time to rebuild your engine. If after a rebuild on the engine your PP is still lower then it should be or the car starts to handle funny without changes to it that when you rebuild the chassis.

At least the thats me.

I change oil whenever horsepower (hp) starts to drop, even if the oil is not dark or black.  Not sure of the mileage, I just keep an eye on my hp.

Well, you could go until it turns black, but considering that an oil change costs next to nothing, I do them very routinely unless I'm doing an engine repair (which I also do with regularity on most cars)... In fact, I usually bring a car back to "clean" when I put it away and reach for a new toy.

Since we're in a racing mode, I'd say maybe 5 races max between oil change, and only one if you're doing an endurance race. If you screw up and over rev the engine many times during the course of that time, I'd say it's time to consider an engine rebuild. But that's me.

I wonder, what do real racers do? How often do they change the oil?

It is all dependent on the car. I have some I've never changed it. Others I have too change after every race.

I notice HP starts to drop around 150 miles.  I normally change at 150-200 miles or so.  You could wait longer, but as was said, it's comparitively cheap so...

Chasis is less clear.  I have tested with used cars to see when it needs it on them, but it's unclear.  I'll do the chasis at 20,000 on used cars (and engine rebuild as well) but it's expensive, so I am not really sure where the best time is.  Until I do, I'll stay with 20,000....

Now used new cars, I have rebuilt my first x2010 (it had dropped noticabally and was not regaining all HP on the oil change) at I wanna say every 4000 miles or so, but was a while ago...  I also rebuilt my RM vette and it only has a little less than 4000...  and my first FGT, but it's a F1 clone, so they rebuild the engine every 400-500 miles don't they?

Related question, sort of...

What is everyone's "Break-in" point on new cars?  Looks like 200 miles or so brings HP up to it's max.

My routine:

Buy new car.

Change Oil for HP boost.

Drive about 150 miles.

Change Oil.

Do about 50 or more miles.

Car at max HP (it seems) and ready to race.

IT SEEMS Race cars do not gain from Break-in.  Anyone agree/disagree?

edited.  Sheesh.  Didn't catch I typed used when I meant new...
