As always excellent feedback. Thanks to everyone. Regarding distance and t.v. size, I have a 20 inch display and my vision is not what it used to be. I have to strain my eyes a lot. Is 42 inch going too big? 39 inch LCD 120 hz sounds great for the price. Well at least I'm going in the right direction.

Me too on the eye issue. I use 3.0 reading glasses, if that's any measure

No, I wouldn't say 42" is too large. My face is about 4-1/2 feet from the screen while driving (wheel is almost exactly 3 feet from the screen face) and it's working well for me.

I really think you should go no bigger than a 32inch if you are going to be 4 to 3 feet in front of it. Why don't you go to your nearest retailer and stand that many feet in front of a 32 or 39 inch and see witch you could stand ? Now an HD 1080P at 120Hz is in the right direction . Just know that bigger is not better if you are going to be only 3 feet in front of it. You might do more damage to your vision that close up if you get a 39inch.

There is some display adjustability within GT that you can use, too.

That's sound advise. Each of us is different. For me, a 42 is the perfect size. For others, another size might be optimal.

i use a 40 inch Samsung lcd that works perfect for me. Mind you I use this for both PS3 and normal TV watching. In all honesty I wouldn't mind a smaller TV. Say around 37". That might be a little better for when I hook up the wheel and sit about 3 feet away. But I never have a problem with my eyes. Well, my eye.

I was going to do just what you suggested after work today. The local retailer has a bunch in my price range I just need to going to store and sit down in front of one. I have my eye on the Insignia 42" 120hz LCD/ LED 1080p. Priced on sale for 399.00. I read about 200 reviews on this one and most were positive. More than likely this will be what I purchase unless I find something better at store.

Thanks so much everyone!

So it's time now to upgrade my HD TV. I am currently using a sharp 1080i flat screen. I want to up to 1080p and bigger screen. Looking to size in at about 42". I would like to stay under 400.00 usd.

Which would be the best, keeping in mind that the t.v. will ONLY get used in junction with the PS3.  What type of  t.v. should I be looking for :  LCD, LED, Plasma etc????  Also keep in mind that with my play seat and console setup, my face is about three feet from the screen and centered at about eye level. Any and all suggestions appreciated.

Thanks

If I were you and wanted the best TV size and experience from 3 feet away, I'd have to go with a 100" TV. That would allow you the proper viewing angle to go with GT5's default Field of View setting Smiley Very Happy

If you actually care about the Field of View and viewing angle and all that stuff (I do, for realism's sake Smiley Wink) a 39" or 42" TV will work fine with GT5 if you adjust one of the game menu settings.

If you don't care about any of that stuff, the bigger the better!

I have a 42" SONY Bravia that I like a lot.  It's been solid for several years now and countless GT5 races...

the nice thing about combining a SONY TV with a Playstation 3 is that the same remote can operate both, and they can each wake each other up and shut each other down if needed.

my current setup has that 42" in the living room with the "box" though, so I now only have a 32" SAMSUNG in the cave w/ my PS3 and driving rig... but it's still good enough.
