Yes, work started on GT6 as soon as GT5 was released.
We haven't time frame for release, however.

I don't know if its just me, but I feel that Gran Turismo should do something like (I hate to say the name) forza horizon. I know I'm not a game designer but I don't think it would be that hard to copy over all the cars from GT-5 and put them into an open world. I myself would love this and even pay 70 USD. I hope you take this into consideration, thank you.

I find it kinda ironic, other driving/racing sim developers look to GT as the benchmark, and seek to copy or replicate its success.
Yet folks come in here and ask for features from arcade titles.
It would be like, say when I had my first car, a Hyundai Pony, and going to the Hyundai forums and lamenting how much better my Pony would be with Ferrari seats, or a Lamborghini engine.
There are things GT could use to improve the title, but taking any step towards arcadism is a step in the wrong direction.

I think that negativity is blinding you guys!
Think of it this way... the OP thinks that PD stand a better chance of being able to create an open world environment to drive around in, than he thinks that Horizon can succeed at equaling PD's handling model..! Sounds like a tribute to PD, couched in those terms!
'Arcade' is such a colored term.... I'm pretty sure that iRacing players think of GT5 as 'arcade'. Now are your hackles up? LOL
Bottom line is, they are ALL 'driving' games of one sort or another. And the difference between them is FAR more blurred than most of you care to admit. Me if I HAD to play an open world game, I'd far prefer it to have GT5's handling and visual detail.
The thing that puzzles me the most is that those of you who are the MOST fervent PD fans seem the most scared they might actually go ahead and do it! What's the matter boys? Are you scared that if PD did it, they would stop doing GT games? Not exactly showing a lot of faith, here...
Personally, were PD to make an open world game, I am sure it would quickly become the benchmark by which other open world games are measured by.
How's THAT for positivity? LOL
