Are car sounds getting much better?

OK... it's fair to say that work on GT6 is well under way over at PD. So, one can also make the assumption that any new car DLC will have much of what GT6 plans for visual and auditory improvements (I find it unlikely that PD will release DLC now, and then completely re-do the audio for it for GT6). So...

Is anyone completely blown away (or even mildly pleased) with the car sounds from the new batch of DLC? Especially the BRZ, possibly an indicator of where PD is going in street car sounds.

One of the major requests on any wishlist has been for PD to up the visceral quality of the audio, to improve immersion, and to move us away from the 'Hoover Years'. Do you think that they are making any great strides responding to that?

Re: Are car sounds getting much better?

I am not aware of any changes to car sound FX.

As far I understand, GT5 has a database of sounds that get applied to the range of cars. I heard the number is something like 37 samples, plus our modifications of parts. ToCA was done in a similar way. That's why certain cars all sound exactly alike, although I don't know of any that sound quite the same as the Viper ACR that I used the other day :smileyvery-happy: .

Until that system changes, don't expect miracles.

2.08 included a fix  for car sound in online races. After a league race tonight I can say the audio is much improved. Your engine noise is not muffled and other cars do not drown yours out. In fact I could even hear the car side by side with me turbo wine as well as mine ! pretty cool.

Re: Are car sounds getting much better?

I think the car Sounds are pretty good.
I just added a Sound Bar with a small 6" Sub woofer, and a 70 watt Amp and ButtKicker Under my Seat.

The Buttkicker converts the LFE that you can't hear into Vibrations. 50hz and lower frequencies.

Now I can hear the Deep engine and Exhausts Notes, plus feel the vibrations.

It adds a Whole new dimension to driving the cars..

The sounds from the TV just don't do GT5 justice..

Here's my current setup. It's a work in progress. I have to Paint it, and I may build a Skin for it..  Not sure..

I built (2) 24 x 24 bases. One for the Seat, and one for the Pedals. The One for the Pedals I made at a 20 degree angle, and 4" Lower than the one for the Seat.

all the plans I saw on-line, have you sitting Down on the floor.  Fine for a young guy who can get up off the floor.
I'm getting too old, so I wanted my Seat Height at 22" - about the same Height as a standard chair.

So I raised both the Seat and Pedals up.

The two bases are held together with a Side runner. So it can quickly come apart and be Mobile.

I plan to add two more 32" TV's (and 2 more ps3 and Gt5) so the TV satnd has extensions on the sides..

first test using a table...

Re: Are car sounds getting much better?

Now that's a nice "little" rig that is.

Love the butt kicker idea.

While it may not be much for "G" forces...

I'll wager it adds much in the way of "Gee" forces, as in Gosh and Golly... :smileyhappy:
