Re: FF Series: Season 3 (Wednesday Night Online Racing Series)

Sep 13, 2012

Well it would be nice if you guys returned the favor and moved over on your victory lap!!

JK Smiley Happy

Despite finishing in 6th, I had a blast!  It was my first GT5 planned race, as opposed to a pick-up race in the open lobby.  I've always tried to negotiate longer races there but no one is ever up for it.

I started in 5th, and my race quickly turned into a battle for the leader of the losers Smiley Happy  The field stretched out in front and behind me the first few laps... the top 3 or 4 running away from me, and the back 3 falling to a few turns behind me.  So I was solo for a while.

I quickly realized I was chewing through my tires too fast, (everyone else notice all the tire marks on the turn exits?  Pretty sure those were all mine Smiley Happy  Despite traction control cranked up and a diff that was nearly locked) I and was going to need two pit stops.

My strategy was to pit on lap 11 and 21, spreading them out evenly so I didn't get caught with shot tires and 3 laps to go.

NoLimit finally caught me coming around the last square hairpin before the front straight, and got around me as I went for the pits (sorry for trying to go through you to get there!!)

My second time out was largely uneventful... I got my 5th place back after everyone else pitted.

Fast forward to lap 21, and once again Nolimit's Minii was on my back bumper as I tried to limp around the last few turns to the pits.

In hindsight, if I had held him off one more turn, I would have got into the pits before him (seemed like that was the lap to pit!) and would have probably got out ahead of him!  However, he got by me easily and I followed him in.  My pitstop was a disaster... came to a complete stop briefly in pit lane, and when I finally got out of the pits Nolimit had a good 5-10 second lead.  Fatigue and frustration led to a few more mistakes, and I was unable to catch him.

Thanks again guys, I'll try to be there next week!

Re: FF Series: Season 3 (Wednesday Night Online Racing Series)

well im getting closer and closer and closer with the FF's  im still chewing up my tires faster then id like to but im getting better at it.  i DONT get how some of you run softs on back.  i cant make the car turn at all with soft rear tires.   I almost didnt make it because i had some parenting to do which held me off from getting online till 9, THEN to find out i needed a system update that took nearly 25 minutes to complete.  I Only got 2 timed laps in in Qualifying before time ran out.  had it not been for Iceanspice asking for the 2 laps i wouldnt have got THAT many in.   only was.2xx off from eci.  when the race started i had the inside line?  not sure HOW they set the grid at Monaco but i had the inside enough that i could hold E up.  i think we went side by side all the way to the casino.   E dropped back and every time id let off a little to save tires.  i think i can drive a defencive line pretty good so i took the chance in the hair pins to hold off from powering out not to light up the tires anymore then i had to.   i finally messed up on lap 13 in turn 1.  i missed my braking point and clobbered the wall and could only watch at PeyPete went on by up the hill. After pitting i tried to run hard with out loosing to much time,   and the handle was much different then i had anticipated in that alfa romeo and it messed me up quite a bit.   i never ran more then 3 or 4 laps with the car in any practices leading up to the event.  i never do,  i usually jus run 30 or so laps in practice and learn the car from there.  i planned on that last night but couldnt get online in time.

see you all at the Mini Cooper s 07 showdown at Indy next week :-)

during practice I pitted and JFTFOI I put on on comfort:softs on the rear.

hoooooolllly crap that didn't work.  I got passed by my own taillights 15 times before I made it halfway around the track.

I think putting sport mediums on the rear might get it to rotate, but you're going to put some more wear on the fronts.  They light up every time the back steps out on turn exit.

Grats to pete on the win last night. Monaco is a tough track and I didn't tame it last night to say the least lol. I'm enrolling in doggie training school tomorrow.

Glad everybody enjoyed the race last night.  I had a good time as always.  Pete was definitely the class of the field last night.

To everybody else:  There were only a handful of us that stayed for the preview race last night.  FYI - Next week is the Mini Race (see schedule).  Anyway, these things were a blast to drive!  The 4 of us that drove the mini's in the preview race, were neck and neck for the majority of the race.  Should be a fun one if we get a good crowd next week.  Be sure to try and pick a unique color, so we don't all look the same.  LOL  I went orange with black wheels.

EDIT: PETE! Congradulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Glad to see you beat eci and ken. Smiley Happy

Ken, You've been pushing through the front lately; i'm glad to see you runnning good.

BUT, WHAT THE HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Comofort Softs, Medieum sports?! idk man. The rear tyres don't get used much, i know. So you have to tune the car to give your front wheels MAX grip and the rears Little to NO GRIP.

How is that done?
 Soft shocks all around

Soft springs in the front Stiff springs in the back.

Rear toe at least -1.0 The car has a lot to do with how much toe you add. Some cars really don't like the toe and others love it. Thats where your experiment time should be focused.

NO Camber on the rear wheels, unless at slower tracks (such as cote de azur).

.8 camber on the front (tyres turn red with 9 and above under heavy steering.)

Make sure your weight is distrubuated at least 60 40. Or around there.

There are a lot of "little" things you can adjust to make the rear stay of a swivel .

Also, i use a wheel so a controller might have issues with extreme toes.

I had to bail last night. Started getting a unbearable headache. I was going to watch the rest of the race but i just couldn't do it.

I think i miight  have just let my championship run slip through. Oh well. plenty of rounds to do battle still. I plan on gunning for as many wins as i can.

Is the Mini we are using the new one we have to pay real money for?????? or the Premeuim one? If its the  real money one then i shall be in need of some PSN credits. Smiley Happy See you guys Tuesday for some practice.
