Athena's Blades

7 replies 439 views Edited Jan 6, 2010

Just out of curiosity, why is it that in the beginning of the game, Athena's Blades are glowing blue and when you attack with them they glow yellow, yet after you drain your godly powers into the Blade Of Olympus and begin leveling up all over again, the symbols on Athena's Blades are glowing red and they glow red when you attack with them?  Why is that?  It makes no sense at all.

Simple because he is no longer a God nor is he loved nor favored by the Olympians anymore.

GOW1:

  1. Kratos becomes The God of War
  2. Athena give Kratos the Blades

GOW2

  1. Kratos jumps down to earth from Olympus and gets attacked by an Eagle
  2. Zeus drops the Blades of Olympus and tells Kratos: by draining your Godly powers into the sword, you will be able to defeat the Colossus.

Right then and there, as it is also shown after he defeats the Colossus, Kratos is once again a mortal.

From this point on, the blades upgrades just like the blade of chaos. He is no longer a God & no longer favored nor loved by the Olympians.

Also remember that The Blades of Athens were given to him by Athena but we were never told that they could never be taken away. Now the blades of Chaos are forever chained to him.

Blade of Athena = Blades of Chaos + Athena's Blessing +  Godhood

In the GoW universe, it appears blue is a favored color for 'godly power'.  Though exploding gods vary with the individual so it seems.

Yet, they're still The Blades Of Athena.  Technically, you would think that after you reclaim The Blade Of Olympus you would regain the Godly powers you submitted to the sword to kill the Colossus.  :-\

Apparently once your powers are lost to the sword, they cannot be drawn out per se.  We just hold that power again IN the Blade.  It only takes, never gives.

*SPOILER* While we are on this topic of draining powers in the sword, why does Kratos not lose his powers when he uses the sword in the Zeus battle?

How would he lose them in the fight?  He did not purposefully drain anything into it as in Rhodes.
