Because of my everlasting evil seeing eye black magic crystal ball.

But no really, it's a Sony exclusive and all Sony exclusives are issued to have an online pass if it has online since 2011 I believe.

David Jaffe (creative director of god of war 1) didn't want an online pass for the newest Twisted Metal but Sony was the one providing the dough so it was well beyond his abilities.

That's a shame. It'll limit the amount of people that hop into the mp. Unless they do a trial pass kind of deal.

Its not going to limit the amount as much as you think.  COD, Borderlands II , and etc... all have online passes and tons of people play those games non stop.  This will only stop used game copies so I fail to see how this limits anything.

If you have sub accounts they can all log on with your pass and dont need thier own.  You only need 1 per master account and personally for sony's stand point it's a way to avoid making premium membership a requirement to do any multiplayer at all like Xbox has.   It does cost alot of money to maintain these servers and the network to connect to them.

Not so much if it's peer to peer. That's a lot cheaper than dedicated servers.

It doesn't hurt anyone buying the game new anyway...
