Maybe right away. I have one where I used the left analog stick so much the ring around it is much bigger than the right one.

Get a dog, a really big one.  Even if it is the sweetest , gentlest  dog , people will think twice about stealing from you.  Just make sure the dog barks.

Since we aren't getting the controller guys maybe a decal will suffice you for a bit?  Might find one that you like.
