A question about the Hecaton in Ascension

8 replies 384 views Edited Feb 3, 2013
I got some questions about the new 30-minute single-player video.
Which of the Hecatons(Hecatoncheires)is the one in Ascension?
There are three Hecatons in Greek mythology - Briareus, Cottus and Gyges .
But it cannot be Gyges, y'all have seen the God Of War comics?
Well, I consider the comics as the official thing and it belongs to the whole series first.
Gyges is the island(Gyges means "an island" in Greek)where the Ambrosia grows and the arms of it had been burned in the period before Ascension.
So the Hecaton in Ascension can only be one of the rest ones.
And in the comics Gyges said the Hecatons were waitin' for the growing of the Ambrosia,
but where the Hecaton in Ascension is? Well this may be answered after the release of Ascension.
But the biggest problem I wanna ask is.......
Why the Hecaton in Ascension has only one head?!
Hecatons have 50 heads and 100 arms each, and so Gyges in the comics is.
Is it just the re-design or is it just a little bug?
Well just for discussion and fun, don't care about too much.

Todd Papy was interviewed and he stated that they have 100 heads and 100 arms/hands but they didn't want to do 100 heads because well, it's a lot to make.

>cannot be Gyges
>because of the comic
The comics are non-canon. Just like the book. With that said, it can be. Also, remember that GoS made the Furies into one being (Erinys) then made GoW:A to split them again (ignoring their original character). They do this sort of thing. Retcons, continuity issues, liberties taken, ignoring secondary canon (mobile game too), etc.

>where is the Hecatoncheir
Another version of Tartarus. The early story info said the prison was there (and that's where the Furies belong). Should be dark and gloomy, but the GoWIII version didn't conform to this either.

>one head
They answered by interview. They didn't want to deal with so many heads. Same with Typhon in GoWII. The hand issue was hard enough to work with.

>re-design or
Re-design to work to their limitations.

Well it's true that there're many confusions of Greek mythology and Rome myth.

The name "Erinys" is in Greek myth and "The Furies" is in Rome myth.

Also the God of War series is happened in an alternate version of Ancient Greece according to Wiki.

Maybe it can all be solved because it's not the orthodox Greek myth.

It's a curious thing to use the same foe twice (in different ways). This besides original characters (Thera, Piraeus Lion, etc.) or character from not just other mythologies, but those outside the realm of Greek acknowledgement (Banshee comes to mind).

Orcos is strictly not a Greek figure at all. It would be like eventually using Arachne (which I expect to see if they were willing to give Skorpius the spot light *eventually Cancer too*).
