i bough a hauppauge HD PVR and when i try to set it up so that i can record games from my ps3 through the haupauge on to my computer, and ive tried to set it up but it wont show up on my tv so i bought a sony component AV cable cause people said that it doesnt work unless you have one, but it still doesnt work. i have a PS3 slim and the Component AV cable wont even work when i plug it in on my tv. if anyone knows how to set it up or anything can you please write back because this really starting to make me hate sony!

SO if you have it setup like this: PS3 > Component Cables > HD PVR > Component Cables > TV and nothing is showing on-screen then you must have a defective unit. I would return it for another one.

It could also be that your PS3 is stuck in HD settings. So, hold your power button down for 10 seconds to give it a good reset (it should beep a couple times) turn it on and the screen should pop up.
I had that same problem when I tried my hauppauge; just reset the ps3 and fix the settings to component, not HD.

Hello, i am having the same type of problem. I have set up my ps3 to the hauppauge HD PVR and there is no picture. But when i unplug the ps3 cables from the back of the hauppauge and plug them directly into the tv, it works fine. And i have done the rest and it is not in HD.
any help is well appreciated!

hello everyone. same problem. in short:
PS3 to PVR to PC is working (can preview and record with ArcSoft)
PVR to TV is not working.
------------------------------------------------
full explanation:
TV= Pioneer PDP-506HD Plasma HDTV
PVR= Hauppauge HD PVR 1212 with newest drivers from the site
currently connected with TV<-->PS3 with HDMI @ 1080i. working.
connected PS3 (AV Multi)<-->PVR (component, vid in) *official Sony PS3 cable
connected PVR (component, vid out)<-->TV (D-terminal "D-4", vid in) *D-4 accepts 720p. **gold plated Fujitsu cable
connected PVR<-->PC (usb 2.0)
using Intel Pentium Dual core, each @ 3.0GHz + soundcard. working.
installed new graphics card @ 512mb memory. working.
installed newest Hauppauge drivers from site. working.
installed ArcSoft video capture software. working.
cannot connect TV<-->PS3 using cable for a direct test, since my Japanese TV has D-terminal, which is equivalent to component input.
(* therefore, cannot change PS3 settings from HDMI to unless PS3>PVR>PC is connected)
started up ArcSoft vid cap software. working.
changed PS3 "video output settings" to . set resolution to 720p.
checked PS3 video on the vid cap software (PC). preview working.
tried to record PS3 video footage. worked.
set TV remote control to correct video input channel (actually, same as HDMI channel).
checked TV video feed. all 4 channels have black screen, no images. not working!
unplugged HDMI from TV and PS3. no change.
turned power off/on for PVR and PS3. no change.
searched Hauppauge forums. only 2 threads exist on this issue. no concrete solutions.
-----------------------------------------------
sry for the long message, but i have searched and searched and no one offers any solutions to the issue. all threads on this issue always end with the OP never answering HOW it was fixed. i would be in your debt if you could offer any solid closure to this issue. Thank you!!
edit: i will try to change the vid output setting again, with everything hooked up. then put ps3 in standby mode (red-light at front). then unplug HDMI. then hold touch-sensitive on/off button for 5+ seconds (which does an "auto-reset/detect"). i will report if it works or not once i get home from work.

lol @ me. i overcomplicated things.
looked through all my TV settings with the remote control (my menu is in japanese so im not completely sure what i was reading)
found a setting to turn HDMI on/off. i turned it off, since my D-terminal (component equivalent) also runs through the same channel as my HDMI. as soon as i turned HDMI off, i got picture again on my TV. sometimes its the simple things.

To avoid the blank capture screen on the Arcsoft Total Media , you need to go to playstation settings, go to display settings and choose:
-Video output Settings
-Component/D-Terminal
-Select all resolutions that are supported by your TV
Here is the key: check all of the resolutions EXCEPT 1080P
Once you do this, you should be able to capture video from the PS3. Apparently, the Hauppauge PVR maximum resolution is 1080i.
