Stream desktop to PS3?

Is there software for Windows or Linux which will stream in real-time the contents of the desktop such that the PS3 can show it as video? Note that I don't mean to stream files stored on the desktop - I mean what you would see if you were sitting at the computer. This would be a bridge to get services the PS3 doesn't currently grok onto the PS3.

I'll go ahead and say no on this one. Your best bet for something like that would be a wireless/wired KVM setup.

Re: Stream desktop to PS3?

if you look at it this way the PS3 is a client and your software needs to be installed on a host

the limitation is not with linux or windows software

you can't install programs on the PS3 unless you're referring to the Other OS and then you're limited by RAM and the Hypervisor

this all theory though as I have heard that Play On will run Hulu

I think that what you're trying to do requires modified UPnP code or reverse engineering of how the PSP and PS3 transmit data=proprietary code= firmware update

I could be wrong

Re: Stream desktop to PS3?

There actually is a program that will stream whatever you are doing on your pc to your ps3. I think it lags behind a few seconds though between the pc and ps3. I cant remember the name of it at the moment and I have church in a few minutes, but later tonite I will try and find it and let you know what it is.

Edit. I found what I was talking about, I believe this is what you are looking for.

Re: Stream desktop to PS3?

DisplayShare does sound like what I want. Of course I would prefer if it were free ... So far I haven't been able to get it to work. PS3 scan for media servers finds my ReadyNAS and DirecTv as always, but it does not find my PC. I have enabled and started up SSDP and UPnP on my XP PC per the instructions, run the UPnPTest program they reference (all pass except 7 and 8 which they say don't matter). This is a wired network, no wireless issues to deal with. Router is running Tomato firmware 1.22. I suppose I'll have to run NetMonitor and try to guess what's wrong based on what I see there.

Re: Stream desktop to PS3?

then I stand corrected

how does it work though

one would think you'd have to have remote access to the PC or a keyboard/mouse combo with good range

I dont remember what I did, it was months back when I tried the free trial. I am pretty sure it worked pretty easily though, like I said earlier the only thing is it seemed to lag behind a few seconds from what I was actually doing on the computer. I will say that, it worked well enough that if it was something I would use alot, I deffinately would have paid for it.

My PC is in the same room and about 10 feet from my TV, so I didnt have that problem.

Sounds like you want to run a media server?

That's the only program you'll need, ever. Transcodes on the fly and streams to your ps3. Doesn't stream your desktop though...is there a certain reason you want it to?

Re: Stream desktop to PS3?

Network Monitor shows XP receiving SSDP messages but not sending any. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling SSDP/UPNP, making sure they are started, I can see there is something listening on UDP port 1900, svchost.exe does have upnphost.dll loaded, there is no firewall running, etc. Their tech support replied that it sounded like I had tried everything, they had no further suggestions to offer. So I'll put it out there for everyone else - what might prevent Windows from responding to any SSDP messages?
