I received my Playstation 3D Display about 2 weeks ago.
The first 2 days, my screen would go black for a couple of seconds. The audio would continue to play, but just black screen. Nothing seemed to be wrong after.
Recently, it's happened 3 or 4 times back to back, literally 4 seconds apart.
It's happened another 2-3 times recently, but spread out. I read some people received their display dead on arrival, and others had theirs die within hours/days of use. Is this a possible defect?
Oh, I also had a problem with the sound. I switched a sound preset once and the audio immediately screeched and crackled, so I set it back to normal. I've only tried switching presets twice, the first time I didn't notice anything, the second time I had the problem. Haven't tried since.
I sought help with Sony customer support. Apparently the Playstation 3D Display isn't a Sony product. They told me that their forum/support was for Sony VAIO, televisions and other products and to go to the Playstation forums for help.
Solved! Go to Solution.

You need to call SCEA customer support. The phone number is 800-345-SONY. The display is new, so it is still under warranty. If it isn't working properly, send it in for replacement.

Mine just broke. I turn on the display and it goes from blue to blinking red twice. The display won't even light up dark like it should when you first turn it on. I bought it on Nov 18th and yesterday was the 14th day so now I can't go back to Best Buy and get a exchange now I need to deal with the idiot suppot at SONY.

I am on my second one. The first had the exact same issue which you described, not to mention the HDMI cable it was packaged with didn't work. I also called Sony tech. support for assistance and the very kind, albeit clueless, customer service rep. insisted that it was my PlayStation 3 and not the TV... and that I should format my PS3.... Yeah... okay... not doing that. I went back to GameStop and replaced it for a second one. SO FAR (fingers crossed), I have not encountered the "black screen" issue, but I have noticed that the Control for HDMI feature (where powering the PS3 on also powers on the monitor) worked fine for the first week, but now does not seem to be functioning properly.
I'm very upset by the lack of support by Sony on this one. It's also very hard to find useful information about these displays online. If anyone else has had issues with theirs, I encourage you to make the Internet and Sony aware.

I had the same problem I am on my second display. I returned the first one to Best Buy yesterday and it seems this one might have the problem as well so thats 2 down. I even did a magic rub and pary to god that the box i grabbed for the replacement was a non defective one and i guess I fail.
There is no information at all for the display online and no retailers sell an extended warranty for this display. Luckily these problems are happening to me now when i am still eligible for the holiday return policy but I really hope I can manage to find one without this problem before Jan 24th hits and I have to deal with Sony.
I am really interested in what the problem is exactly and if there is a possible fix without replacing any parts. Aside from these problems the display is amazing.

I am not alone. same issue. Sony CSR are not helpful. I told them it happens when I use it with my PC, their answer was to change the PC. Dont know if gamestop would refund me.
