Corrupted Data, Please Help!

First I'll tell you what happened.

My Playstation wouldnt run 2 games correctly. Modnation Racers and Dark Souls. When I put the discs in, the system would make a few funny sounds, then a 'clunk' noise, and finally behave as if the disc was never insterted at all.

After about 15 minutes of persistence, both games will eventually run. but who wants to instert, eject, and re-insert their game for 15 minutes before they play? Not me.

I 'Restored the File System' in PS3 Safe Mode about 20 times to no avail.

So I backed up my data and proceeded to 'Reformat the PS3' in Safe Mode.

Clean slate, "new" hard drive, problem solved. Right?

Yesterday I reloaded Modnation Racers, as well as the backed up data, and everything ran smoothly the first time.

Today I go to play my games and I am back at square one. Funny Sounds, 'clunk', fail.

Clearly some part of the Modnation Racers data is corrupted. My question is, which part(s)?

Is there any way to know which data I should or should not put back onto my PS3?

This problem has come seemingly out of nowhere, as I took a break (of several months) from the game which had previously worked just fine. And as I faithfully return to the Modnation Community, THIS happens. Please Help!
