Has there been any word on if the the PlayStation 4 will be able to play PS3 games, or possibly even PS2 and PS1 games as well?

The latest rumors state that the PS4 will not be BC with PS3 games. I suspect that the PS4 will be able to play PSone Classics, and possibly PS2 Classics sold in the PSN store.

The earlier versions of the PS3 weren't though some are. They may not make it backwards compatible for financial reasons such as them making more money out of people buying the games online like with most PS3s now.

They leaked the specs that the PS4 will be totally backwards compatible and will even play XBox and Xbox 360 games. They are still working on Wii support....

Actually, we knoe squat about the PS4 xD I guess the BC capabillity is a staple for the PS4, but if SONY thinks they will make more money (and they will) by not doing it and selling the games on the PSN instead, we know what they will choose

Well that's really too bad. My 40GB PS3 that I've had since like '07 got the YLOD not too long ago, and I was going to wait for the PS4, rather than invest in another PS3 (I heard it was very likely the PS4 will be out by holiday 2013). I don't want to buy the digital versions of my PS3 games to download on the PS4, not to mention I hate my games not being physical.

The PS4 hasn't had any details spilled for it, let alone an official announcement.

I had High Hopes for PS4, I really did... I was hoping it would be better then the PS3, but thing is, I can only afford to buy a few Games, maybe 2 or 3 at most... So if PS4 is not Backwards Compatible with (PS1, PS2, Including PS3 Games), i'm afraid i'm going to have to refuse to buy one for myself... 

I was going to sell my PS3 for PS4, but if it's not Compatible with PS3, I mise well forget about PS4 all together... 

Please, don't ruin PS4 for me... oO 

Correct me if i'm wrong, but the Next Wii is Due out probably this Christmas of 2012, X-Box 720 should most likely be out by early 2013, or late 2013, depending on when they decide to bring it out... As for PS4, I doub't we'll see that till sometime early or last 2014, if i'm correct... It all depends on when the X-Box 720 is released, cause X-Box 720 shouldn't be too far from the Wii U... & PS4 I believe was comming late, so my guess is it's going to be almost a full year after the 720 is released that Sony releases the PS4...

Sony- If the Ps4 isn't FULLY backwards compatible, I am NOT buying one! You will never make very much digital money off me, since I'd rather have physical copies. The ONLY reason you've made money off my digital purchases is because I couldn't afford the Ps1 or 2 disc. There's no reason why the Ps4 shouldn't be able to play Ps1-3 discs. I know... Money can be an issue. So, here's an idea: Since the Ps4 will be faster and more powerful (I think and hope at least), instead of using hardware to play the Ps1-3's discs, there are these absolutely wonderful things/programs called emulators. And, since the controller hasn't significantly changed (thank god, and please don't), you don't have to do anything to/with them. Good day.
