the other system next gen will not allow used games to be played - which also means no rentals (say goodbye gamefly, blockbuster) and no takeing games to a friends house--- and if you own more then 1 of the aforementioned units-- you cant play it on all of them
lol thanks other company- if this is true you already lost the next generation battle

It's way to early to call the ball on this one... The only way I can see them getting away with this is not putting out new games for the Box for the rest of the generation. That way all the boxxers will have played all the games ALOT and be completely ready for all new games... maybe.
Unfortunately I do see the possibility that ALL game systems will start looking at a similar model. And remember that a lot of this push is coming from the developers. Starting with the 10 buck online license for new games, we will see more pressure coming in to make the rental and used game market loose money and the dev's make more. I really think they are hurting themselves trying to kill used game sales, but I do see that the 10 dollar online pass makes sense. Hosting all that server space costs money and they need the funds to keep them coming. (I have just painted a target on my back haven't I?)
The rage in my heart will be unmatched if I cannot play my PS3 games on the next gen playstation. (PS Kali? PS Zues? I am sure it will have a name and not a number this time). If the BOX stays on the same bent listed in the article it will hurt them, and HARD. Sony will have to make a little more room in the servers.

I am making a guess, but seeing the Vita I think they are making a marketing change... Branding is an art and I think they are going to make a statement that this is not just next playstation, but a whole new thing.
PS Vita sounds better then PSP2
Playstation Shiva sounds better the playstation 4
I think in the next gen we are going to see them distill down everything in the current gen and the big two will try to cram it all in there. Upgrade the hardware, throw in all the feature sets, and accessories. Basically I magine a playstation with X-chat, Kinect, Move, Multi log on, Multi Vid out, PSN and PSN+, full apps suport, tablet compatibility, Blu tooth, Blu ray version 2 (3,4,5 whatever), cloud support, wireless and wired, user upgradable. Basically a feature set that includes everything out now, and the top 10 or so requests on the forums.
That is where I see Box and PS starting the next gen. So a name makes more sence than a number. I could be wrong, I mean PS4 seems to roll off the tongue, but still... Playstation Odin... yeah.

Why wouldnt it be the PS4?
I mean they went though 3 different systems and just changed the number why wouldnt they do it this time?
Maybe you know something I dont.
4 is generally seen as a sort of "unlucky" number in Japan.
"There are several unlucky numbers in Japanese. Traditionally, 4 and 9 are unlucky. Four is sometimes pronounced shi, which is also the word for death. Nine is also sometimes pronounced ku, which can mean suffering. 13 is also occasionally thought of as unlucky, although this is imported from Western culture. Because of these unlucky numbers, sometimes levels or rooms with 4 or 9 in them don't exist in hospitals or hotels, and particularly in the maternity section of a hospital, the room number 43 is avoided because it can literally mean "still birth." Therefore, when giving gifts such as sets of plates, they are normally sets of three or five, never four."

I hope Sony doesn't do the same.

Now that makes alot of sense...
I mean on some buildings you see they skip a floor like from floor 12 next one would be floor 14.
So yeah I could understand that part.
especially when it reference is Death.
