So I'm trying to play this on my laptop...

It's so different from other mmos I can't figure out how to even change my settings. I think the camera is set to invert by default and now it won't even log me in. How do I use it's overly confusing menu?

I've figure out the controls a bit more but I can't find the menu which is driving me insane. What kind of game hides the menu? At this point I'm just glad it's a free trial and I hope FFXIV isn't as wonky.

The menu isn't always there because the game was made for console first and runs at 640x480 on PS2. There's no room for the menu to always be on the screen at that resolution. The controls are meant for a full keyboard with a number pad. If you don't have that, you've got to change your keyboard layout to Compact in-game, in the Config section on the second page of the menu. I only use a controller, so I don't know which key accesses the menu on a keyboard. The default controller controls are the standard layout for a PS2 FF game.

To open the menu press CTRL and - button, then change to the laptop control.

go to FFXI setup under the FFXI/POL folder on the start menu to fix the controls.  Personally I prefer a Dual Shock clone on a PC...
