Check your ps3 serial number
CECHBxx - 20GB (Hardware backwards compatability)
CECHAxx - 60GB (Hardware backwards compatability)
CECHExx - 80GB (Software emulation backwards compatability)
If it's not any of those then it won't play ps2 games.
There is a easier way to detect if a PS3 is compatible to PS2 games:
IF it has only 2 USB ports, your PS3 is NOT compatible to PS2 games !
PS: All old models have 4 USB ports, but as the PS3 supports REGION CODE for PS2 & PS1 games, it also has to be a US PS3 with NTSC, as US PS2 games wont run on other PS3 ...

Ok so when u install ff11 on ur ps3 u wont need the disc anymore?????????
Naw, it's totally installed but you have to select the ICON after when you power 'on' the PS3. Go right into gaming baby!
My PS3 was the 60GB when I first got it and I installed FFXI on it with NP. I had trouble later and send it in to SONY. Got back a whole new PS3 >.>
A LOT noisier too! Lucky I can still play FFXI on it but the saturation on the screen is out of wack when the FFXI game loads and it warps a light blue color throughout the screen! Really annoying!
I didn't notice that till after 90 days went by and the geeky techs say I have to pay for service again. >.> I sey forget that... suck it up and drive on... play the PC and PS2 version, not difference to me. I still love the game and works fine on PS2( but better on PC).
