Installing FFXI on your PS3

i usually play FFXI from my computer but recently my computer has become unavailable for me. So i just purchased FFXI(ps2) and the bluetooth logitech keyboard seeing that Playstation made a patch to be able to run FFXI on the ps3. how do you go about installing FFXI on the ps3? (mind you i've always played in on PC) I already downloaded the ps2 pack from the PSNS but havent done anything with it.

So how do i go about this?

Re: Installing FFXI on your PS3

Did you even RTFM for FFXI yet? It's pretty clear how to install and run it if you read the manual and on-screen instructions. If you didn't, shame on you for ignoring the manual and coming to a forum first. What's the point of the manual if you're going to ignore it?

Also note that BlueTooth keyboards tend to not function properly with FFXI. It's running in PS2 mode, so it expects USB devices, like the PS2 would use. It tends to recognize BT keyboards as PS3 controllers, so everything will act like you've got the Ctrl button down, and you won't be able to chat with it. There's only a few wireless keyboards known to work without that problem.

Do you have to have a keyboard?

If not I might go about buying it.

Re: Installing FFXI on your PS3

No you do not need a keyboard for it. It helps but it is not needed. You can type with the controller which can take some time getting use too.

Also, I am not sure but do you actually have the PS2 disks? You say you have the ps2 information from the PSN. You still need the disks to install the game onto the harddrive which will partition 10gb for the game when you place the disk in.

Re: Installing FFXI on your PS3

to bungiefan :

wow you sound rude. but ignoring that fact. I came to the forums because i wanted to know if people have had issues with installing FFXI on the ps3 which i have read about before. i already know how to install software i just wanted to make sure if i wasnt forgetting anything because this game was made for ps2 not ps3. so installing it on a ps3 should require some aditional steps that you regularly wouldnt need on a ps2.(i've always played it on PC) >.>

to superducky :
yes i mentioned i bought the bluetooth logitech keyboard, i've always played this game on PC so even though i know it could be played with a regular remote... it wasnt going to feel "right" ^^ i know what you mean

to jburner :
as mentioned above in my first post... i just bought the vanadiel 2008 collection (has all 4 exp packs on it.) i also read somewhere that you needed to download that ps2 pack from the PSN store.. did that.

the point of this post was to check if thats all i needed and if anyone ran into trouble to clarify or something... this game was intended for ps2 not for ps3 so thats why im asking ahead of time to be prepared for anything.
thank you.

Re: Installing FFXI on your PS3

All issues with running the game on a PS3 were fixed back in the middle of December, as some post titles on the first page of topics indicate. I figured you'd see those threads and do your own reading on recent updates.

Bungiefan is a bit rude.

You do have everything you need. You should be good to go.

BUT. Bluetooth keyboards have been proven not to be compatible with FFXI. SE needs to make them compatible. You need a USB keyboard.

Re: Installing FFXI on your PS3

I'm nly being the way I am because he has everything he needs, yet he didn't even try to follow the manual, or even start the installation on his own before asking for help. Had he just gone ahead and started the install, he wouldn't have even needed to ask, except the part about keyboard problems he'd run into. I get a bit ticked when people don't even attempt to help themselves before crying out for help. It's not like trying the installer would have broken the console if he did it wrong.

So that does not give you the right to treat him like he's an idiot. Back off. Think about what you're going to say before you say it. Didn't your mother teach you that? Apparently it never sunk in.

Re: Installing FFXI on your PS3

Dealing with arrogant eggheads sitting behind the safety of their keyboards and monitors will always be an issue.  They dont run the boards, so why even pay attention to them. Anyway...

Now, I'm not sure if this is a problem anymore, but I thought you had to have the original Playonline disc in order to install FFXI VDC08 on the PS3.  I wouldn't know because I had my originals installed before I got VDC08. I see what you mean though. Why would I want to go through 2-5 hours of dowloading and installing just to find out I needed to wait or go through an entirely different step for it to be successful.
