yes, if it's not a 40GB...essentially, you need to have a unit that has PS2 backward compatibility.

Install doesn't ask for a registration code. Only actual activation of a Content ID for the game or expansion requires a code. Thus you can install with a used copy, but you can't play what was installed unless you already have an account with the content activated, or have a registration code from another source, such as a PC version.

Good guide, but it's a little outdated. The Wings of the Goddess expansion pack has been out for quite some time now.

thnx 4 replying... what u mean is I can install the game in the ps3 but then buy a PC version to activate the code? what if the code is used? u cant use it anymore?

Codes are locked to region, not platform. You can use a code from any platform on any other platform as long as it is from the same region as the PlayOnline account. You can log into any PlayOnline account on any platform, from any region, regardless of what the account was registered on. It's like this forum, you can use it on any computer with a web browser, whether it's running Mac OS, WIndows, Linux, or something else, as long as you remember your password and username.

Registration codes only work once. After that, you have an account, which you can use to log in on any installed version of the game. If the code is already used, it can never be used again, so used copies of the game are worthless unless you just need the discs to install to access an existing account.

Ok so I have been playing FFXI on my ps3(80gb) for a month or so now. And I got this HDD error while I was playing today, so I reboot it and then it says my game isnt fully installed, and now it wont read my installation disc. any Ideas?
