ima newbie to this game and ive watched vids where people use cure and they do it on all teamates and only cast one cure....how do i do this? also where is the w-materia found i heard it very useful.

To cast a spell on all teammates or all enemies, you need the, yes, you guessed it - "All" materia I know you can get one in the shinra building on disc 1, but not sure about other times. It's just a simple case of equipping it in an adjacent slot to whatever other materia you want to use.

As for the W Item materia, The materia is obtained after your party parachutes back into Midgar in Disc 3. After entering the subway tunnels in Sector 8, your party may walk away from the screen and encounter the Turks, or walk towards the screen to reach another subway section. Select the second choice and follow the subway tunnel until it ends at a dead end with the W-Item materia. Take it. Use it's magnificent powerful power of win.

Just to further expand on the bolded paragraph. Make sure that the materia slots are connected (looks something like O=O). Otherwise, the All materia will do nothing (there are weapons/armor that have connected and unconnected materia slots). So basically, set the all materia in one of the connected slots and cure in the other.

there are a few areas early in the game that will take you through an extensive tutorial, especially as it concerns materia
