LRFFXIII

That title Smiley Indifferent

Some details from Andriasang:

- The Lightning they show will be even stronger than in the first two games.

- She will have her final battle in the new title.

- Players will be able to experience actions that are symbolic of Lighthing -- speed, etc. The game will also have customization.

- "Lightning's final battle begins now," says Toriyama.

Next concept keyword: "World Driven."

The game will have some sort of connectivity with the real world, apparently through Facebook.

- Players will be able to select from a variety of Lighthing costumes.

- There will be a lot of costumes -- not at the level of 10 or 20, but a lot more. They're currently looking into this area, so they can't share the final number.

- The costumes can themselves be customized through parameters.

Lighting's weapons -- you can equip Lightning with big weapons.

They're developing the game with button response in mind, although they won't necessarily go so far as to call it an action game.

- The game is set in an area called Navus Partus.

- He focuses in on the biggest city in the region, Lexerion.

From IGN:

Square Enix has announced Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. Set to arrive in 2013, Lightning Returns will incorporate “a brand-new story, world, characters and an enhanced gameplay system,” according to Square Enix. The game will feature Lightning as a solo playable character and allow her to freely roam a new world.

Other details regarding Lightning Returns are limited. We do know that the main story takes place hundreds of years after Final Fantasy XIII-2, set in a world called Novus Partus -- which is composed of four islands connected by monorail. The development team told IGN that three of the guiding pillars for the art direction in Lightning Returns are "gothic, mechanical and fantasy."

The most startling change to Lightning Returns comes in the form of the doomsday countdown. According to Square-Enix, the world will end after 13 days, and a massive clock will count down constantly in the corner of the screen to indicate this looming deadline. Any action players take, even taking the monorail from place to place, will spend time and hasten the end of days.

With Lightning as the only playable character, players will have unparalleled control over customizing her looks and combat style. The battle system itself, a greatly modified version of the previous two, will feature real-time elements including direct control of Lightning's movement and her attacks, as well as time-based moves that drain the doomsday counter. Lightning Returns will also include a real-time block system, designed to make battles much more active and time-based. Even dying mid-battle will activate a prompt to give players the choice to rewind their mistakes at the expense of the timer.

I am all for this reimagination of lighting. She is possibly the strongest female charecter in gaming so far and I feel she's under aprciated because of her games lack of success. This game will definately allow us to get into the mind of lighting and learn about all she is and all she is capable of. Also I am exspecting a parasite eve costume. Aya brea and Lighting have switched places in games before (dissidia and 3rd birthday) and I like the idea of these two different charecters being drawn paralell through their shared perserverence.

Well, from a marketing stand point this is probably their best plan. It'll bug those who wanted to have the nice 13-3 on their shelf. But naturally seeing as how when someone says they love Lightning, they mean Lightning and not so much the game she's from lol

I don't think that's a problem considering it's essentially not FFXIII-3. FFXIII is defined by it's party style combat and new ATB gauge battle system. this is something completely new. 1 charecter, 0 ATB, 100% new direction.

Yeah, they say this is the end to Lightning's story so I wouldn't exactly call this XIII-3.  This allows them to try something different with Lightning and the mythos, wrapping her up while being able to continue or go in a different direction with XIII-3 with the rest of the characters.

I'm intrigued by this re-imaging of FF XIII and Lightning. I still desperately want Versus XIII but this looks promising. Time will tell in the end though.
