Well, I would say buy it now and see what you think of the first game. If it turns out you don't like it, you won't have to waste your money on a trilogy (if it even comes out).
Personally, I love the Dead Space series and would buy a trilogy package in a heartbeat- but only if it included special features not found in the original releases.
You will undoubtedly be waiting a while for any kind of trilogy set. EA hasn't even released a box of the two current titles.
As much as I love DS, I am personally going to try and hold out, just long enough to see if a "loaded" version comes out, or at least until it falls below $50.00.
As CELvolt says though, if someone hasn't ever played DS, then a Trilogy may turn out to be a waste of money, should the series not be that persons particular cup of tea.
In the end, it is ultimately up to you and your own decision on when and how to buy the DS series. IMHO, I think it would be advantageous for you to just buy DS1, play it through a couple of times, buy DS2 and do the same. This way, when DS3 comes out, you will be up to date on the story, and not feel like you have to rush. I am pretty sure you can get DS1 for a song, and DS2 should not be that much more expensive either.

Doubtful. Because I don't think the series will just be a trilogy.
I have a feeling it will turn into something like Resident Evil.
And look how long it took for them to release a "collection."
I would suggest just picking up a copy of "Dead Space" to try it out. If you enjoy it, then continue the story by picking up part 2 and then 3.
You can buy Dead Space 1 for $20 dollars at any retailer now.

Get Dead Space 1 it's $14.99 on PSN to see if you like it. I really don't see a trilogy coming about so soon for Dead Space. If you like Dead Space like others have said then get Dead Space 2. I think holding out for a trilogy seems iike a one in ten chance as it might not happen, plus getting all three games for $60 seems far fetch. I really think we'll see a Dead Space 4 in the future.
