i think this is my next stop but how do I get to it? the painting says contraption wont move.

You have to go back to the Undead Asylum and get the Peculiar Doll.......it will be in the cell you started in.

In case you were wondering how to get back to the Asylum, you have to ride up the elevator to the Undead Parish and then roll/jump off at a ledge that's about 1/3 of the way up. Then you have to walk onto a grass bit that's to the right side and there should be a pillar which you can roll onto (there are a few chests beneath the pillar). Then walk up the pillar into the ummm.... colosseum-style thing and just climb up the stairs and eventually you will find a crow's nest which you should "curl up like a ball" in and the crow will take you to the Undead Asylum.
