I tried upgrading my PS4's HDD into a 1TB Samsung drive (ST1000LMN024). I follow the usual steps like boot into safe mode, choose initialize system (install software), then it continues to load the software and then prepare to initialize the software. However, after the system reboots, the process no longer continues.
When I connect the very same HDD onto my PC, it is detected but now has at least 10 partitions in varying sizes ranging from 900gb to 1tb. I tried re-formatting the same HDD to NTFS and FAT32 but I still get the same result.
My PS4 came with a 500gb Samsung HDD which works and I can boot my PS4 and play games with no problems.
So, did I get a faulty 1TB drive? Or am I doing something wrong?

Though replacement drives do fit into the PS4, we do not guarantee the compatibility of those 3rd party hard drives with the PS4.
"While other drive types may work, we only recommend using offically supported drives with your PS4 system."
Only the following type of hard disk drive (HDD) is offically supported with the PS4:
- 2.5 inch (internal type) *1
- Serial ATA (Parallel ATA is not supported)
*1 Proper operation is not guaranteed for all models.

There is NO LIST for compatible drives. The ps4 can see, partition into what 12 parts or so, and start installing software, then it bombs out? How many drives are you supposed to "try" until it works?
Yes, I followed the steps exactly.
The system software I was trying to install is the 1.52 system software sizing around 800MB.
sounds like the same issue i had, after it started going through its process it doesnt actually reboot, it just goes blank screen and nothing. You are not the only one. Mine is like your drive minus the "N" ST1000LM024
I don't really see the point of the unit not recognizing or the idea that the HDD is unsupported/not compatible considering that its a plain 5400 RPM 2.5" HDD of the same variant as the stock HDD :\ This is just plain annoying lol.
