You would need to buy an enclosure for it. Once in there and formatted, yes you can use it as external storage.

The enclosure needs to be an native USB to Sata only enclosure...

NO gimmicks or added functions... The DRM of USB 3.0 will detect the hubs and gimicks and Block the encloser usage...

Very important to make sure USB to SATA enclosure or adapter is USB 3.0 or newer.

Do not plug USB 3.0 storage into a slow USB 2.0 hub or use a slow USB 2.0 cable, it may not work for external game storage. Use USB 3.0 cable that usually comes with adapter or enclusure. An optional USB 3.0 hub might be ok.

For Game storage

For the HDD to be viewable and then erased it has to be ExFat or Fat 32 formated..

You can not use SIE HDD partition table for multi things...

SIE will ERASE the partition table of the HDD and add their own partition map Erasing MBR or GUID...

SIE encypted partition table will require the HOLE HDD... and be unreadable to anything but PS4s...

OS'es will not be able to read SIEs encrypted partition data not just Mac OS and Windows but even Linux builds...

No gimicks allowed... that includes partitions so far..

For video, pictures, music save data

For the HDD to be viewable it has to be ExFat or Fat 32 formated...

The PS4 will only see the first partition so insure a single partition when selecting formating...
