Hopefully its fixed with the 1.7 patch as it is quite beefy adding alot of new features
+ ive contacted them 4 times with diffrent emails to get more 'complaints' :3
I'm in the UK and I've had this drive pre-ordered for a month now from Amazon.co.uk as shown here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-9-5mm-SATA-Interna
It's a little pricey at £150 but I want a drive that will last me 3-5 years as I'm someone who plays a lot of games over a long period of time so having to uninstall/reinstall games to make space for new ones would annoy me. My default 500 GB is already almost full with just 39 GB of space free (thankfully, enough for inFamous: Second Son today).
I did Google the drive and found a lot of US forum threads reporting that the drive was incompatible with the PS4 but those were date November to early January 2014 and with this drive not released here in the UK my assumption is that this is an updated model, perhaps with a newer firmware, that will work with the PS4. The product description on Amazon does specifically mention the PS3 and PS4 so I'm hopeful. If it isn't then at least Amazon have a superb support service and I'll be able to either get my money back or swap it for the 1.5 TB HGST 5K1500 drive.
Anyone else from the UK buying this drive? Obviously, if it does work OK then I'll report back in this thread.
Im from the uk too. the hdd is the same model number as stated in this thread. + cancel your order!! buy the seagate backup plus slim 2tb hdd from argos its £90. open the enclosure and you have you spinpoint m9t thats what i did
it doesnt work in my ps4 unless i use the methods stated to get it too boot and then leave it in standby.
+ i searched the segate site for a firware update for the drive and there hasnt been one since launch. I also contacted them to make sure and they said there is no update for the drive. this might be because it hasn't gone retail yet as a standalone drive
the 3 possible model numbers are:
they are too do with regions not updated models ie. The west, Asia and south americas
Just figured I'd chime in with my results. I have a launch day PS4 with a Hitachi 500GB drive. Tried to put an M9T from a Seagate backup plus slim (model # ST2000LM003) in my PS4. Same issue. I was able to get it to boot by putting the drive in after PS logo, installing the system software went fine. Was pretty excited.
But if I turn it off with the button when I turn it back on I get the pulsing blue light and black screen on my TV. Workarounds don't help me because my family uses the PS4 for Netflix and games.
So for now I've got the 500GB back in, anxiously awaiting a fix in 1.7 but to be honest I wouldn't be surprised if Samsung has to push out a firmware update for the drive to solve this. I hope they do.
I know right now is April 1st but I swear this is true.
Yesterday I bought a used Samsung spinpoint (also a Seagate Momentus?) 2 TB HDD from Craigslist, and it works flawlessly with my PS4, which came with a HGST HDD.
I googled it specs online to check the specs because it doesn't say much on the label and spotted this thread. I was so worried that I just bought a useless brick but decided it's worth a try. I tried to turn of my PS4 with controller and console power button several times, and work flawlessly. Maybe I'm just lucky?
BTW this is a launch North American PS4 with patch 1.62 before I upgraded, and 1.3 HDMI cable if this helps or not.
Edit: BTW, the Date of Manufacture is 12/2013, so it's made in December 2013 I believe.
I have my PS4 run through my stereo receiver and have HDMI control turned on on my PS4. Completely turned off, there was not an issue booting the PS4.
