Not ideal and still very poor on Sony's behalf... but going into my modem and changing the Wireless settings from WPA2-PSK (AES) to WPA-PSK(TKIP) security options has got the WiFi working again. Update needs to be patched though as it's ridiculous that these type of bugs get through and people have to sort it out for themselves with no help from Sony.
So it's not specific to Netgear routers, which makes sense to me. Also sounds like it's an issue with WPA2 and/or IEEE 802.11n, given that people have had some success falling back to WPA and.or 802.11a/b/g. Not ideal, but at least it's a work-around. I might give a try, but I'm thinking to just use an ethernet cable - but for many people that isn't an option.
Still waiting on some sort of official announcement/acknowledgement from Sony...
