I was having the CE-34878-0 error when I first installed NBA 2K14, I did the initialize option 4 times and restored system and I was still unable to get past the second logo screen in 2K14 to install the game, I would have to exit out after the logo screen would display and then screen would go black. My only option was to then hit ps button and exit application. I would then get the screen with the error code. After called the SONY number to get a new unit, I was going to try one more thing. This is what I did.
I would appreciate it if people having this error could try this if nothing else is working, to see if we have a solution.
I went to PS4 safe mode by
1. Completely turning off PS4 (no standby mode)
2. Restarted PS4 with finger held on power button until I heard second beep and then letting go, which put me in safe mode.
3. I followed these instructions posted by another user.
1.) Turn system on in Safe Mode.
2.) Connect controller and press the PS button.
3.) Press Down 2 times on the D Pad. (Update System Software)
4.) Press X.
5.) Press Down 2 times on the D pad. (Update Using Internet)
6.) Press X.
7.) Press X again.
8.) Wait for your system to reboot on it's own.
This restored firmware update 1.51. I then when through process just as if the PS4 was brand new. When I got the main UI screen I put in NBA2K14, this time it prompted me after the game there was a patch (it did not do this before) and asked me if I wanted to play the game before I installed patch. I said "no". I then installed the patch. I started 2K14 and this time EVERYTHING WORKED. I am sitting here watching the demo mode right now. Good luck and I truly hope this helps someone else.
Thanks, what a relief. I really, really hope that this helps other people. I will update if I get the error code while playing. So far, so good. At the very least it let me get past the error I was having installing. I would love to hear more feedback from others.
Did you go into settings and do initialize PS4 first, (full one) takes two hours, and when asked deactivate system? That is what I did before I restored the firmware update.
