Blue ray does not work?

8 replies 354 views Edited Dec 21, 2013

Not only are there few games for the PS4 but the blue ray player does not work???

I put a blue-ray movie disk in and the movie menu appeared but when pressing play there was a black screen and then nothing.

Is there a special trick for blue-ray that is different from DVD's or is the player just broken on the ps4?

I watched 2 Blu-Ray movies today on my ps4 , Spider Man 3 and No country for old men and everything was great.

Are you sure everything is updated on your ps4? If everything there is ok I would get in touch with Sony.

if a game will work from disc and not a movie there probably a software issue maybe do a restore or see if theres a update. call sony. cause it obviouly works if it plays games

How do I update? It does not give me any option. As I said the movie menu appears, i hit play and the screen goes black and stays that way.

I'm having a similar problem myself.  I can play older Blu-ray movies that I have at home, but when I rent a new release Blu-ray from Redbox they don't work.  Like if I put in Batman: Dark Knight Rises it plays fine, but just tried to watch The World's End which I just rented from Redbox and it's not working.  Makes me think that Sony needs to update the encoding for the bluray playback.

FYI...same thing is happening with my PS3.

OK...just did live chat with Sony support and all you have to do is turn off the internet connection then replay the blu-ray.  The movies sometimes check for updates like date, time, etc...turning off the internet forces the movie to just play.  I was told that there is something possibly wrong with my network and was advised to call Sony support for troubleshooting.

Anyway, turning off the internet worked just fine for me.  Hope it helps you out.  Smiley Very Happy
