Ezio. Not as successful as Altair, he still rebuilt the brotherhood and got the apple.

For Bad guys:

Rodrigo Borgia. Serious, this fat guy wouldn't die even though five Ezios were coming at him at once.

You have to say Ezio. We played as him in three games and watched him grow an the brotherhood. Altair was cool and saved the brotherhood but Ezio is a better assassin because he had greater weapons and greater technology

You have to go with Altair, he is like the Godfather of the guild. I have a feeling that Connor is going to be pretty badass though.

With Altair you didn't get to much of his story until revelations which was a good game in all but I'm gunna take a "leap of faith" and say desmond cause cmon he's the who letting us play as him and I loved playing as him outside the animus even though it was for 10 min and I love talking to Shaun and his butt comments
