What is the YLOD??

I know it's a light you get when your PS3 bites the dust but what technically is wrong??

Dead Bluray drive, The cell explode? What's the deal?

(PS I had a dead Blu ray drive but no YLOD)

It seems to be a general hardware failure

it comes up when something inside the PS3 is not working, for example if you try turning on

the PS3 with the USB readers unplugged you get the YLOD, once you plug them in it works again

Yeah I heard something about hdd failure but I'm not exactly sure.  I just got a refurbished PS3 today, a replacement for mine that got the YLOD.  It's not the same one because it's way shinier and is missing a big scratch that mine had, so obviously something that couldn't be fixed was wrong in mine.
If you think Black Ops is too hard, why don't you just go back to MW2 where the game just hands you kills?

SO nobody really knows the root cause eh?

On the other system I know that the rrod is a seperation of the x clamp fromn the motherboard due to crappy glue and.... MADE IN CHINA!!

But nobody knows spesifically what the issue is with the ylod? Hmmm....

Well the PS3 was made by magic so nobody can really tell when something goes wrong. Magic isn't always 100% reliable.

Mine went from the power supply in it giving out.  This is known by a clicking sound from the back bottom vent (where the power supply is located) when the ps3 is turned on and the green light turns yellow.

You're better off just getting a new one. You can't do much about it. I mean you can take it all apart and put on new thermal paste and put it all back together but that is no guarantee it's gonna work.

It seems like it would be the systems way of saying something has failed preventing the system to perform, so anything that can fail and make an impact really.
