How do you get NAT 1?

I know connecting your PS3 directly to your modem is the way, but how do you get internet connection? My modem has only one ethernet slot behind it.
What are some good brand name modems that I can get or what modem/router combos are available?

    Not sure. I've used wireless and wired, either way I get the same NAT and I have a great cable connection, it's weird.

    You have to go without a router to your ps3.

    NAT 1: PS3 is directly connected to the internet
    NAT 2: PS3 is correctly connected through a router to the internet
    NAT 3: PS3 is incorrectly connected through a router to the internet

    I know but how does it work? I can't just plug it directly to my modem when there isn't any internet there. Can anyone who has NAT 1 tell me or pm me on how they actually set it up?

    The modem is what gives your internet... So all you would do is plug your PS3 directly into your modem... All the router does is allow more then one thing to connected to the internet at once...
    Please note that having NAT 1 does not mean your connection will be any better, if you have the correct ports open on your router and have Nat 2, it is good.

    I did just that and when I tested the connection, the Internet connection always failed after checking the IP address. So what is it that I'm doing wrong or not doing at all?

    Gah you have to manually put your settings into the ps3..like ur ip and stuff

    I have been playing with NAT 3 since the game came out with no issues.  UPnP on my router allows the correct ports to be openned.
     
    Pre-patch I did play with port settings but that never made much of a difference as the problems were on their server side.
     
    Due to the way I have my systems setup (work related) I will never have better than Nat 3 on my PS3.   It is working fine.   Prestige 4 lvl37 now!!

    Already did that. I've assigned a static IP for my PS3.

    After disconnecting a router, you have to reset the modem before it will work again. The fastest way to do this is by unplugging it for 10 seconds then plugging it back in.

    Why would you go without a router? I have had no issues and its nice having my pc ps3 and 360 able to go online without switching stuff.
