My tv doesn't support hdmi. For HD it is using dvi in and dvi audio in instead. So I'm using scart to connect it to my hd ready lcd tv. I've noticed while playing final fantasy 13 that during cut scenes with fast motion, occasionally there will be horizontal lines visible. I've been told this is called 'screen tearing'. I've tried to imitate it with this image:

Is this normal for players which use scart? I'm assuming most of you are using hdmi or composite so don't recognizes this. But all you scart or svideo users out there: do you see this effect too? It started with the intro cut scene. The 'train' which was riding on a mountain. It had some kind of delay effect. Almost stuttering image. First thought this might be on purpose and normal. Until I saw the same scene on youtube. Then I see these hairline thick lines during cut scenes with a lot of movement (fight scenes etc.). During gameplay or scenes with slow motion these lines are gone. But during fast motion cut scenes these lines appear.
Does it have something to do with me using scart. Any other scart-users out there who see the same thing. All my other games (uncharted, gta4 etc.) don't show this. If it's the game's fault I'm kinda disappointed...
the response rate of your LCD may be causing this. I played Darksiders on my 32" and there's lots of lag and I saw screen tears but on my 18.5" there is no lag and very little screen tearing. Both of them HDMI. On FFXIII I haven't seen any screen tearing, neither on composite or HDMI or HDMI to DVI-D.
That's why I thought it might be because I'm using a scart cable to connect my ps3 to the lcd tv. Other games don't have this so I'm guessing the response rate is ok? I could try to use a hdmi to dvi cable to play it in hd (with the audio cables connected to the dvi audio in connector). Any other scart users out there?
You're not alone, I'm also suffering this problem. I was so annoyed when I first encounted this problem. I've waited three years for this game and this is what I get! Still the game is fun and hopefully Sony WILL release a patch to solve this problem.

dont get your hopes up, seeing as this is a low key problem atm, they wont do squat.
I'm having this problem too. I'm using scart and have tried it on two different TV's, one a regular and one a large plasma so I don't know where the problems coming from. Hope it get fixed cos it's really distracting.
Crazy amounts of screen tearing for me also, SDTV with scart. It's a great TV, just not HD. I really don't have the money to spend on a new TV, and I refuse playing with crippled picture quality. Uncharted 2 worked just beautifully. The question is legitimate since i've seen endless complaints about this - when is the patch coming? SquareEnix can not ignore this.
Mine is not HD at all, it's backprojection SD. It shouldn't matter since developers can utilize v-sync to eliminate screen tear on low resolution TVs. SquareEnix have not done this in FF13 and it seems like a BIG mistake from their part. ALOT of people still have SD around the globe.
try setting the resolution to 480p. I had to change it from 1080 as the text was too small. Happens alot with some Playstation games as all PS2 games are native 480p. Seems some devs still use this native res as with some demos from PSN you;ll notice the res change as your XMB will change in size. Maybe this just all varies with my TV but play around with it. Sometimes this helps with those issues. Can you install it to the HD? Some PS3 games need to be installed.

Same problem here, sdtv, adjusting settings did nothing.
Its killing the enjoyment for me badly to the point im about to buy a new tv <_>'
I mailed them about it and they just replied that 720p is the minimum resolution for this game to display properly. Basically what they’re saying, although masked with a humble tone and lots of apologies, is that they don’t give a **bleep** about all the massive amounts of SD owners who buy their game world wide. Apparently it’s our own fault for still owning SDTVs and now we got to accept a faulty gaming experience.
